"My question therefore is, can other network providers buy you out contracts from competitors? Surely it would make good business sense to spend approx. £200 pounds to then make approx £940 off that customer - who may then continue to stick with them for longer."
I am not going to stick up for xbrenx or Exhortation, but you did add a question - albeit without a question mark - at the end.
I think it fair comment for them to express their opinions based upon the last sentence, if not on the previous one.
As I have said in many other threads, this is the problem of buying a handset linked to a long contract. If you are a gadget junkie (that isn't meant to be rude or derogatory) and like the latest handsets, then you should buy them and go sim-free. In that way, you are free to change handsets when you want and can afford them rather than be miserably tied to last year's model.
If it was considered good business (to trade up as you suggest) by the networks, then would they all not be biting MSE members' hands off in similar circumstances?
But good luck with your calls to them and do keep members posted.0 -

Not if you made them less than £200 PROFIT it wouldn't be - and the chances are that it wouldn't.0 -
I went in to speak with Phones 4 U and they are able to buy you out of your contract on a case by case basis, they were willing to buy me out of mine but couldnt due to me wanting to switch to iPhone, any other phone/tariff they would have been able to do it.
So if you want to change to another phone aside from the iPhone then go and visit them.
It seems I will have to buy my way out, ah well nevermind.
Cheers,
