  • try bell, not sure if theyre the same as admiral though.
could look at insurethebox or a similar company that installs a tracker.

add a named more experienced driver.

Try fully comp, and wack up the excess.
  • Look to see if any companies will offer a discount for pass plus and consider taking it.

Ask a local broker for a quotation they may have a little more joy than £8000

I can't believe what you've been quoted, it's outrageous. My son has been looking, in anticipation of his first car later this year, and they've all come in around £2200. My daughter went with Quinn and they weren't too bad. Put one/both of your parents on and that tends to bring it down abit.
  • you need to get your parents to insure the car, and put you on as a named driver..

waste of money having your own policy until 21...?

If its the OP car and he will be the main user of the vehicle then what your suggesting he does is called fronting and could very well invalidate any claim he may need to make in the future, void his insurance and land him a lot of trouble.

And if it is a third party claim, insurers could decide to go after the policyholder for their outlay which could be substantial.

There is clearly something wrong with what was put into the system for a quote of that size.

Your insurance does depend on your postcode amongst other things - best bet is to go and see a broker who will be able to help you or read all of the other threads on here about insurance for youngsters.
  • it is illegal.

fleet insurance is very different to normal insurance, fleet is often any driver over ** (21 etc) or they will be named drivers. I am named on a fleet insurance as i am only 21 and have been since i was 17, they have added a clause on our fleet insurance stating i can only use the vehicles for business use. unlike a 17 y/o that will be sitting on mcdonalds at 11pm (no offence 10 op, not everyone is like that)

I would advise adding a parent or 2 to your policy, you as the policy holder, parent / partner etc as a named driver, limit your mileage and high excess.

endsleigh were relatively good for me on my personal car. but lately they have gone worse. Some specialists can be very good though.

I switched on monday to adrian flux, specialists in modified and young drivers. last year i paid 880, this year renewal was 1450, done the moneysupermarket etc and it dropped to 840, a few phonecalls later to specialists i got it for 766 with modifications declared and a few bonus's, can tow etc etc

best bet is do all the comparison websites and adjust settings,

for a laugh i once changed my car from being garaged to on the road, and it dropped £60...

Why is it illegal if the parent insures the car in their name but adds the youngster as a named driver and names them as the main driver?

The cost might not be any less than just adding the parent(s) as a named driver to the youngster's policy.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

because its not the parent that will be driving the car mainly its the son/daughter.

theres nothing wrong with adding a parent (as a named driver) that may only drive the car once a year, but the parent insuring the car and the kid driving it 24/7 is illegal.

if there is a crash and they find out it has been a case of insurance fronting they wont pay out.

whats the point in paying for insurance in the first place if its not valid?
