Received First Water Bill Today

I would have thought the AW figures are based on actual usage, they have special logger meters that log the time and date and how much water is used in a household, the customers are aware of them as they get a discount on the bill.0

You must have grown up in the Imperial age of pints and Gallons;)
It talks everywhere of approx 150 to 160 cubic litres per person per day.
160 litres is 0.16 cubic metres; so 0.16 x 365 = 58.4 cubic metres0 -
Thy were only just phasinf out the groat when I was a lad; as usual it was done late because the politicians wanted to ducat for fear of losing votes:DCardew wrote:You must have grown up in the Imperial age of pints and Gallons;)

oldwiring wrote:Hi there Devo! From the figures you gave I assume that you are in an unmetered property and you receive your bills from Southern Water, the flat having a rateable value (RV) of £200 or thereabouts. The bill is based on the amount due for the complete year 1/4/2006 to 31/3/2007 apportioned to your occupation from 23/8/2006 to 31/3/2007. The figures would appear correct on my assumptions.
I am a little surprised that SW has not offered you a monthly direct debit scheme to you. Have you asked?
.
You do not say how many are in your household but https://www.southernwater.co.uk/customerservices2006/meters/wouldyoubenefit.asp
Has a calculator that might help you decide if metering is to your benefit. As it works on averages you may need to do some recalculations to meet any peculiar circumstances you have, e.g. a dirty job
If you decide to go along the metered route, you may find one cannot be fitted. That being so, you should be offered an assessed charge. Unfortunately or by design the website https://www.southernwater.co.uk has no details.
I hope this may be of assistance.
BTW I think you mixed up the water and wastewater figures in your OP.
The figures are exactly as they appear on the bill we received. Do they sound incorrect then?

Devo. I'll look again in the morning. In eamtime can you confirm rate in £ shown for water and wastewater on your bill?0

Devo,
Your bill is based on your Rateable Value(RV) of £123 which is quite a low RV
I don't have the figures for your water charging zone as it varies even within a water company's area. So you will need to look up the figures yourself.
Let us make up figures of £1.00 for water and 90p for swerage(waste water)
Each year you will be charged;(these are just example figures)
123 x £1 for water = £123
123 x 90p for Sewerage = £110.70
surface water drainage = £22
Highway drainage = £6
Total for year = £261.70
Your bill is for just over 7 months so you would pay just over 7/12ths of that total.
Your bill would appear to be about £240-£250 a year.
You might be able to get it a bit lower if you challenge the surface water drainage.0 -
I made a right error in my typing the RV as £291; as caerdew says it is £123 and it was me who bosec and coxed the figures for water and wastewater.
The actual annual figures for 06/7 would be £239.31, using thr rates on the SW site. I also have looked at a doc about rises for the future and it lloks like next years bill will rise by about3.5% above inflation.0 -
OW,
Do not SW have different charging zones for unmetered water?(That is a question not a statement)
In Severn Trent they have 8 charging zones with quite a difference between prices £1.36 per RV to £1.82 water + Sewerage0 -
AFAICS, after revisring the website, there is only one set of charges for their customers:D0
-
So if we are unmetered and paying our bill as per my first post - we can effectively use as much water as we like...
