IKEA sofa problems

Hi we bought a tylosand corner sofa and matching footstool last month it cost1,125.00 so it wasnt cheap! After a couple of weeks we noticed the covers seemed to be really getting loose and baggy and some seats feel softer than others and the sofa looked messy. We called into IKEA and spoke to CS they said someone will come to you and inspect the sofa to see what the problem is which he did yesterday, but he said, yes you have got a problem with it BUT he didnt know what was causing it! (we think the padding in the seats isnt thick enough)He took photos and said he would fill out an inspection report, he also said it could take a couple of months to resolve this! .This chap doent work for IKEA he is independant , he also mentioned that items should be fit for its purpose (trading standards) and if we wasnt being properly kept informed from IKEA that they have an obligation to us.
I mentioned about the 90 day money back guarantee and he said he thought we would have to take the sofa back ourselves to the store which would mean hiring a van and its 65 miles! so thats not an option.
I think I should give them acouple of weeks to come back to me to see what they could do and if they dont has anyone got any advise please.

The fact that their store is 65 miles from your house is not Ikea's fault, that is where you chose to travel to to get your sofa. Personally I'd make use of their 90 day guarantee to refund your money and get another sofa. This has got to be better than waiting 2 months for a decision, with the possibility of it not being resolved, the 90 day limit lapsing and even more hassle.0 -
Yes I see what you mean I mentioned about the 90 day lapse and was assured that as we had told them of this problem well before it would still be ok as it was well in the 90 day period and the time would be taken from that time,(if you see what i mean!).But I do think this is going to drag on and to save hassle I would rather sort it out sooner, but I feel we are in there hands and we cant do much until they get back to us.0

We had loads of problems with our ikea sofas. Can't remember which range they were but they were £500 each so not the cheapo ones. Over the last four years all four arms have broken and all the cushions have had to be replaces. Luckily my hubby is an upholsterer so he has done all the work himself, but he found the quality very poor when he took it apart. They put on really soft cushions so it is really comfy when you buy it, but the reality is they do not last and they soon all sagged and looked a mess. We complained to ikea but we never heard a thing. They did not reply to our letter. I suppose we could have pursued it further but as huibby could mend it for free we didn't bother. i would deffo avoid them in future though.0

Find out who the manager of the store is and write directly to him/her. Worked wonders for me after an 'interesting' experience instore when trying to return a faulty lamp.
The key is to mark the envelope 'private and confidential' which means it won't be opened by anyone else. I had a call from the customer service manager within a couple of days and numerous apologies for the REALLY bad treatment I receivedEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Well we are going to ring the guy up who came out to inspect the sofas and I will ask him for the managers name and probably write to him, so thanks for that. Its still early days but I am not paying 1250.00 for a sofa that looks like garbage.
Glad you got sorted.0 -
We have a 'stainles steel' kitchen trolley. Stainless steel my ar*e! It is going rusty. We are out of the return period though. I think ikea stuff is junk and won't buy from there in future. The one think I do like about their showrooms is that you can see how the doors hang off their hinges after hundreds of people have opened them. We just gave away a year old malm wardrobe on freecycle (with the draws in side cost over £150). My partner didn't want to sell it because he did not want to be responsible when it falls apart on the next person. I have a friend with an ikea sofa and I have seen it sag.0

This thread is interesting! I didn't know their stuff was so lousy. I mean, I didn't expect fantastic quality, but I didn't know it was this bad.
Personally, I just find the experience of shopping there too hard. I like some of their smaller items - cute wastebaskets or kitchen gadgets - but actually going there is so horrible that I don't know if I will ever do it again. The place is a zoo.:beer:0 -
I personally like going to IKEA - not to buy things but have a look around at their showrooms and stealing some ideas!!! But when buying kitchen fittings and the like I prefer MFI and B&Q.
They also do not have a good collection of living room furniture.BrandNewDay wrote:I like some of their smaller items - cute wastebaskets or kitchen gadgets0 -
I've had Ikea kitchen cupboards, wardrobes, beds and drawer units for years and never had any problems with them. You do need to periodically tighten the hinges, but it's the same with all flat-pack furniture. I always use wood glue on all the joining edges and in the dowel and screw holes, and that makes a big difference. Can't speak for their soft furniture though.
Definitely worth contacting the manager (apart from anything else, it'll provide proof that you contacted them within the guarantee period), and you're within your rights to refuse a repair - just get them to take it back.0 -

I call in Warrington branch now and again for Hotdog and coffee less than a quid and a handful of free pencils;)0
