Do you have an intruder alarm, and if you do, was it set and do you have any way to prove it was triggered?

is this a large insurance claim, and does it make a difference on whether they are going to be reasonable depending on the size of claim?

    No and No.

Regarding the key, I always left it inside the lock so it was easy to open and lock. I don't think someone put their hand through the letter box and turned the key, i think they probably just grabbed it out of the lock and pulled out of the letter box and tehn opened the door from the outside.

But how did you lock up when you left, if there was a key left in the lock on the inside?

The Key was in the back door - I left through the front

OK, got you now. It does seem likely that they used that key - in which case the definition of "force" has been complied with, however, you will need to check the exact policy wording to see if it is forcible and/or violent entry or exit. Most policy wordings can be found online now.

Again, if you looked at the door, you wouldn't think your arm could fit through the letterbox, mine defiantely can't,
    .

You would be suprised! I used to work for a bank and one day was running late, I put my arm through the letter box and opened the door no problem. My manager was shocked and as you can imagine the locks were moved and more security put on the door that day! :rotfl:

  • Have you spoken to your insurers and told them whats happened. Its feasable to gain access via the letterbox and if thats whats being told just be honest with your insurers and let them at least make there initial verdict on your claim first.

Dont try and over complicate matter just stick to the facts, youve been burgeled, there is no evidence that of forced entry but it would seem they gained entry by the letterbox and the key that was in the back door.

See what they say, sorry very little dealings with Groupama but speak to them and if they decline you can take it from there

So let's get this straight...they stole a load of stuff - somehow managed to get in and leave without leaving any evidence? I think this case calls for Jonathan Creek

By the way how does one snap a sofa in half?
My advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.

The fact that other houses have been burgled is one your side.
At least that shows you haven't attempted a fraudulent burglary.

Insurers are more out to stop fraud rather than people who've not put their keys in the best place (believe it or not I'm trying to make that sound non-critical).
Some companies will do anything to wriggle out of payment, others are good.
