Delay opening Abbey postal ISA

went into my local abbey branch today to get forms so i could transfer my mini cash ISA over to them. Was told there could be a delay of "up to a few months" before i could open an account with them due to heavy demand, but interest would be credited from date of application ???

That is correct.
I opened the account few months ago.
in the aplication form they say that it will take 28 days to trnasfer.
As they didn't complete the transfer I called the customer service and complain.
few weeks later I got a letter appology for the delay and says that they deposit additional £20 to the account.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
I've got the same delay issues with opening their eSaver account.
A few months back long apparently.0 -
Came across this thread - I'm getting so exasperated with Abbey!
I first went into my local branch to transfer to Abbey's postal ISA in early September. Nearly 4 months on and after several letters and many forms being sent back and forth, the transfer STILL hasn't happened!! >:(
My advice would be not to touch it with a bargepole.
Is anyone else still having trouble with them?
ThanksWaddle you do eh?0 -
Four months is toooooooo long
Should take less than 30 days.
Write a letter of complaint, they should backdate once the problems sorted on why 4 months0 -
There's a Moneybox article on this HERE.Apology
Abbey's Customer Director Angus Porter admitted that Abbey had "made a right mess" of Mr Grimley's application but said that it had now found the cheque and resolved his case.
Mr Porter continued: "There have clearly been a number of errors. What we have to do is to hold our hands up and apologise, and also to emphasise that people are not going to be financially disadvantaged.
"We will make sure that all interest gets backdated to the point that they have made their application."0 -

Sent off my esaver application on Nov 19 and then followed up two weeks later only to learn that they had been swamped by applications and it would take at least three weeks (I think branch staff have been asked to give that as a standard line)
Got a call last week from them, asking whether I had sent my form and the documentation (an original bank statement) and I said yes. They said they were sorry, but my app seemed to have been 'misplaced' and that I should resend an application. I was also told that they would backdate my initial deposit, so I would not lose the interest. Still waiting for a confirmation of my account having been opened though (guess the Christmas holidays and the recent walkout of the postal service on Friday have something to do with it this time round)It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -

Tell me about it!
The last person I spoke to in branch was extremely helpful, so I am giving them until the end of this week to allow for bank holidays and Xmas post, then I will certainly be taking my business elsewhere.
And I will be writing another letter of complaint - it's unbelievable isn't it?! I was especially impressed with how they sent me back my last letter, actually ripped in half and stapled to yet more duplicate forms for me to fill in recently

Quite how so much paperwork and proof of ID can go missing is beyond me.Waddle you do eh?0 -
I too had a large delay with opening my account. I sent a cheque for £2000 with my application and was waiting for it to leave my account.
I rang abbey and the lady appologised for the delay and ensured me that interest would be paid on the £2000 from the day they recieved it in the post.
Recieved details of my account on Christmas Eve, with a receipt for £0. Rang again yesterday and was told that they have lost my cheque! Now I'm going to have to cancel the cheque, apparently they will pay for this but what about all the loss of interest whist this money has been sat in a low interest account? Think i'm going to have to write a nasty letter! I HATE ABBEY >:(
feel a bit better now ::)Proud to be a moneysaver! :cool:0 -

I had a similar situation with opening the Abbey e-saver, where they lost the documents and the opening amount chq. The guy promptly told me that he'd backdate the chq for me. It was only later that he asked what the chq amount was. I was tempted to quote a huge amount, something in the range of £20000, but my scruples got the better of me
, and I did not (it was for £5 ;D) It's always the grass that suffers, irrespective of whether the elephants are fighting or making love !!!0 -
is everyone still having problems with Abbey?
I've just found out about their Fixed Monthly savings account but it won't be worth the hassle everyone else has been experiencing! Would be interested in opening the Postal ISA with them as well in the new tax year (provided interest rate remains one of the best) if there's no longer a back log of applications!
