Bought counterfeit dress, I think

:o So I was out shopping and saw a dress I liked but couldn't afford the price tag. I left it and was going to buy it later in the month after I got paid.

So came home, got on ebay and saw the dress for half price.... I should know it's too good to be true but in a ways, I really wanted it.

It arrived today and it just doesn't feel right. It's a Monsoon dress (this season) and the care tags at the bottom of the dress doesn't look right.

It's a VERY good copy and I may well keep it but I feel perhaps it should be reflected on feedback? I'm not sure I want to go through of all the hassle of getting it declared a counterfeit and the seller seems to have good feedback from a number of people.

What do I do? :(

I wouldn't reflect it in feedback unless I was 100% sure. I must say though I didn't know anybody bothered to fake Monsoon items, I learn something new every day!

It's a really good copy. Why wouldn't someone counterfeit monsoon dresses? They're pretty popular?

I've looked all over at the stitching and if it's an original monsoon there's no way anyway should pay £95 for wonky stitching :)

I might get the real dress on cc and be able to tell the difference straight away. She's had all positive feedback saying lovely dress etc. from all other buyers. She only sells a few items in different sizes so she's being very very careful.

She just replied in CAPITALS saying it's a genuine item. Decisions decisions...

I agree with Soolin - never heard of anyone bothering to fake Monsoon items!

Maybe she has bought it from somewhere that deals in 'seconds' from Monsoon.... Just a thought - I know there used to be an option on the item specifics to state if it was a second - but the last few times I have listed clothes on ebay, the choices of specifics are minimal.

Or maybe she bought it off ebay, it didn't fit and she has put it straight back on (I've had this with an Oasis dress I bought last week... haven't even thought to check all the wash labels etc... the Oasis label is on it, so I will list it as an Oasis dress!)
  • I have never heard of fake monsoon clothes. If you google there is nothing that turns up. I know Karen Millen is popular for fakes. On another note I tried some Monsoon dresses in store last Xmas and have to say I was shocked at how badly fitting they were and the thin quality of the fabrics. These were around the £80-£90 mark.

They will more than likely be selling overmakes if she has a few of the same in different sizes. This is how the wholesalers sell them in mixed size boxes. There is nothing wrong with over makes just that they may have the tags removed/cut and if you think there is a problem with the care label it might well have been replaced with a basic one as they weren't going to the monsoon shops anymore.

I dabbled in wholesale clothing for a while but glad i've moved lines as it's a pain with fitting and returns and being accused of selling fakes lol
    Monsoon isn't worth faking.

I had heard a great deal about Monsoon and decided to buy myself a dress as a treat. However, I was shocked at the quality, it had a set of ties that went round under the bust and one of them was stitched properly so the stitches were invisible, the other was stitched sort of on the outside so if you tied it tight the stitches gaped and were visible.

Out of interest was the label present?

thanks all, you're right. I popped into a monsoon shop on the way to work and the label and care labels are the same.

The stitching on the dress in the shop is much better when compared to mine. But I paid half the price and am happy with it so will email seller and apologise and will leave feedback :) Guessing it's seconds

I didn't realise you could get wholesale clothes and resell them.

But you have already emailed the seller accusing her of selling fakes? Any apologies firing out to her?
