Samsung TV Faulty - Out of warranty

My sister-in-law Purchased a tv from Littlewoods cat on Dec 08 on account, yesterday it stopped working, seems to have no power at all.
However she is still paying for it on extended terms.
Littlewoods want nothing to do with it as is out 12 months warranty, and have basically told her to her stuffed, however surely you would expect a 900.00 tv to last more than 20 months!!
Do we have any case with littlewoods or samsung?
Any advice would be appreciated.

You will need to push Samsung. After 6 months it's the manufacturers responsibilty.0

Thanks very much for that guys, i dont suppose we will get anywere tbh, in this day and age who has that kind of miney to fork out again on a new tv!!! her last tv lasted 15 years, and there was nothing wrong with it when she got this one, just wanted something more modern!!!
Thanks for your help, much appreciated. :beer:0 -
You will get somewhere, just politely mention that you should be doubly covered by the satisfactory quality stipulation in soga as amended, as they were both the retailer, and supplier of credit. If they still refuse, send the letter off.
You may wish to try Samsung first though, the soga doesn't apply to them, but they may repair it as a goodwill gesture.!!

Nope, under SoGA it's always the retailers responsibility. However, after 6 months old you need to prove an inherent fault; whereas before that any shown fault is considering inherent.
'inherent' means a fault in design or manufacture at the time of purchase that just didn't show up until a later time.
Just look up the numerous posts on here about SoGA.0 -

That's actually irrelevant, you don't get additional rights because you chose to pay in instalments rather than all at once! (well, technically you get section 75 credit provider jointly liable with retailer; but you don't get an additional guarantee or warranty which was my point)
See if you (well actually your sister-in-law, as it's her with the purchase rights) can push it further with Littlewoods - phone again and speak to someone else, write in by letter etc.
If that fails then it's time to decide whether to go the LBA, and then commission an independent report and pursue via Small Claims Court route or not.0 -
, yesterday it stopped working, seems to have no power at all.
Is it making a clicking noise ?
My father's tv has just developed the no power / clicking fault and I found out after a little googling that it is a common fault on certain models that Samsung have been repairing free of charge.
More on it here - Samsung Fault
Give them a ring with the model and serial no.0 -
Suggest that you escalate and complain to Mark Newton-Jones, Chief Executive Shop Direct (incorporating Empire Stores, Great Universal, Kays, Littlewoods, Very, Marshall Ward, Woolworths) via sending him an email at mark.newton-jones@shopdirect.com.
Good luck and hope this helps.
It's a bit early for that don't you think? I know that I recommended emailing the UK CS manager for Samsung earlier in the thread but that is only after all of the normal routes for complaint have been exhausted.
We can't all go running to the CE at the very first sign of a problem.0 -

Its what he does. If you look at his posts, you'll see he never contributes anything of real value and just posts telling them to take it straight to the MD/CEO which is all fine and well if you have exhausted all other avenues but not as a first or even 2nd port of call.
As another poster said, you go through the correct channels you have numerous chances of getting a good result. You go straight to the top and you only get 1 chance.
His postings ultimately have no regard for what this board is actually about - Consumer Rights and regularly advises people to complain to the MD/CEO when in fact, the customers are in the wrong! He even manages to tell them to complain to the MD/CEO of a completely different company!
But hey, like they say........you cant teach the ignorant who choose to remain so.You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
If it is the clicking fault I mentioned earlier just call Samsung on 03307267864 armed with the model , serial no and date of purchase of the TV.
I managed to get through today ( lines can be very busy and in a long queue ) and they are sending an engineer out on Tuesday to repair my father's TV free of charge.
The TV was bought in December 2007 and there's no extended warranty on it.0
