NYC, prepaid cards, travellers cheques, dollars etc

Options
Hi, I'm just after some advice. Myself and my fiance are going to NYC next month for a week. We are going to take about £2000 between us, and will probably take about £500 of this in dollars with us. The rest will be in the form of travellers cheques or on a prepaid debit.

Has anyone just returned from the US? What methods of payment did you use? Any problems with what you used?

Our main concern is having to pay to use ATM's and to use the card for paying for things, but maybe this is just something which we will have to take as a hit????

Also, what do you think about the amount of money we are taking with us, do you think it is enough for a week for two people???

Thanks :A

Came back 2 weeks ago from the same thing as you.

Took $600 in cash and took $3,000 on a Caxton FX Dollar card. Worked great.. ATM's, shop purchases... no problems at all. Oh, and most withdrawals were entirely free. Chase (bank and ATM network) for example don't charge for withdrawals.
