You are going to lose a chargeback, so why not just refund and let this one go. Things do go missing a CD sent to my father last Monday, 10 days ago has gone astray for instance, and I'm still not 100% convinced that the Post office do write to all recipients of lost parcels, I've never had a buyer contacted yet as far as I know.

The thing that sticks in my gullet is that he was unpleasant before I even sent the parcel - he is pulling a fast one. I am convinced that he has got the parcel and thought he was going to do this. I know I will lose a chargeback
I do have other items exactly the same if I send him one of these by a trackable method can paypal still do a chargeback or can he refuse to accept the replacement and get a refund?
He has been very unpleasant from day 1 and bombarded me with unpleasant emails.0 -
why do people need to send unpleasent emails though, ok so the parcel didnt arrive when he wanted it its not your faultNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

If I were you, I definately wouldn't refund, or send any sort of replacement, because he may well claim that doesn't arrive too. You have proof of posting, you sent out the item, there really isn't anything else you can do. If he wants to open up a paypal dispute and try to claim a refund, reply to everything that you need to courteously, but draw it out for as long as you possibly can, then you may well find he gets bored of the whole thing and moves on.
It might have been different if he was more patient, and polite, under those circumstances I would be more inclined to believe the item did actually get lost in the post, but he sort of person who leaves negative feedback after 4 days of an auction end, and then e-mails you like he has doesn't dererve any more of your time and stress. What a nasty character0 -
don't forget to block him from bidding on your auctions in future as well , just in case.

Simply email him and say obviously it's been delayed by the Royal Mail and not you as he can easily see you have nothing but positive feedback and this is the first instance of such an accurance. Also say that if it was that important to be delivered at a specific time he should have requested Next Day delivery and paid for it.
Future solutions:
Send an note/email when the item is posted so that they know it's left you and basically the rest is upon Royal Mail.
Offer recorded delivery and Next Day Delivery options (at high extra charges obviously) and add a note that if the item is required promptly then it is best to select the the Next Day delivery.
Also add a note that all items bought before (say 2pm) will be desptached the same day, and others will be despatched the Next Working Day.0 -
do a partial refund of the items cost, less the postage costs...... make him sweat for the rest..... start a claim through POsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....
