Do any Mobile contracts include texts to europe?

Firstly Hi all, I've been coming here to MSE for many years now and found tons of excellent advice.

I've been looking in this forum for a while and scouring the net thoroughly but I can't find much (or what I do find is a bit out of date) regarding available mobile contracts which include texts to europe.

I ask because I currently have a landline and two mobile phones (one for uk one to sms germany for 10p/sms) and want to roll them all into one mobile phone for convenince and to save money.

I can find a million different tariffs available from a load of different providers each of which comes with inclusive texts and minutes. But none say if they're are for the uk only.

For example £15 a month on virgin mobile gives 200 minutes and unlimited texts, but mentions nowhere if they're uk only.

Not sure if it helps but my current usage for all my phones combined is:

5 sms to germany a day
10 sms to uk a week
1 or 2 mms to germany a week
100+ minutes of calls to random uk networks (work/friends etc) from the landline.

Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

Regards

DN

Its depend whether you are texting a UK mobile number in Germany or a German mobile. Presumably, you are texting a German mobile.

Vodafone have just brought out an International text pack, its 100 international text each month for £5.00 which works out at 5p per message.

The pack may not be adequate for the entire month, but would help with part of the month.

Texting to a UK mobile number internationally would come out of your text allowance.

Generally, contracts are exclusive of international/roaming allowences. These are extra.

02, has unfortunately stopped its 4 text for 1 roaming text offer on contracts.

If in the UK, texting a UK phone(number) that is abroad, it comes out your allowance when you text them, but they get charged the extra price if i remember. As you cannot know where the phone is, so the sender pays their normal rate.

Subtle difference, If in the UK, texting a phone that is a German number. This is an international message.

If your in Germany and texting to the Uk you pay roaming rates.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies

If you get a contract with inclusive data it can be used to text Germany using an application called Fishtext
You simply top up similar to PAYG and texts are just over 3p each to Germany. If your mate in Germany gets the app it is free to text (within your data allowance of course). My missus uses it all the time to text her mates in Ireland at just over a penny each time. She previously paid 25p per text!!
  • International calling cards may help you....................
  • Thanks for all the replies, this one in particular is very interesting:

Is this 100% certain? If it is FANTASTIC! I could just send any old UK PAYG sim card to my friend who lives in germany and the problem would be solved, I could text them all day long for free.

Can you (or anyone else) confirm?

Its 100% certain. Its the UK to UK which matters. Providing you are texting a UK (07) mobile number you can text anywhere internationally and the text will come out of your allowance. The text will also be free for your friend to receive in Germany.

If your friend was texting you back from a UK number, it would cost the standard EU cost from Germany which should be 11p per message.

You are also able to call anywhere internationally, providing its a UK mobile number and the call will also come out of your inclusive minutes but the person receiving the call will need to pay the roaming cost.

Dont forget to top up the PAYG SIM for your friend and keep the SIM active.
