Car Insurance - Which companies offer uninsured driver protection

Hi,
I've been with Direct Line for some years. I think they're expensive (£472.40 for a 1.6L Corolla with 8 yrs no claims).
The thing is that I really value their guarantee that they'll sort everything out if you're hit by an uninsured driver. Without that, you can be pretty much stuffed, as a friend found out.
So I'm wondering - which other companies offer this warranty?
I know the Pru have a promise, but you still lose your excess.

Do you have protected no claims bonus ?
How much is your policy excess ?
(These can help our advice to you)0 -
Aviva have an uninsured driver promise
That's pretty much the only other one I know of0 -
Yes I always protect - and I always go for zero voluntary excess, so whatever the compulsory excess for the insurer is.
Thanks!0 -

If you have protected ncd and a low excess then the uninsured driver promise is only worth having if the saving you make is more than your excess.
I assume you have comprehensive cover, so if you have an accident your Insurer will pay for the repairs to your car irrespective of whether the other driver is at fault or not.
If the other driver was insured and they were at fault you could then recover your excess from them, if they are not insured then you would not normally be able to recover the excess unless perhaps you took them to county court and they had assets to pay the excess.
Accidents with uninsured drivers are not as common as the Daily Mail or the adverts from Direct Line make out.
So my advice to you are look at the whole picture eg quality of Insurer, claims service and price. If you find a company with an uninsured promise that fits your criteria then even better but if they are more than your policy excess I would not bother. If they are less than your excess I would take into account how much the difference is and the chance of me making a claim with an uninsured driver in say a three year period are.0 -
That's a very sensible outlook. DL are 479, whilst Hastings are about 315. I dislike hastings, but fairly sure I can find somebody with £100 excess for less than 379, so...
Thank you!

Yep. That's the next game. Thanks for checking though.
