It happens, no idea why some buyers are like that.

However, keep an eye on your expanded seller dashboard , a 1 or 2 * on there can hurt you a lot more than a neutral.

Maybe there wasn't a problem/issue that could be solved. So they gave a their view of the transaction.

If you put things like no returns excepted in your listings a lot of buyers assume there is no point contacting you.

A lot of these are being left in error (not saying this is the case here, but in general) - There have been a lot of reports of neg feedback being left with glowing positive comment.

Apparantly it is because if people try to tab from the tick box/bullet point next to the positive to the comments box, it is now moving the bullet point from positive to neut and tab again and it moves to negative. Ebay have done away with the 'warning' that warned you you were leaving neg/neut feedback and asking you if you were sure - so a lot of buyers do not even know they have left anything other than positive.

It may be worth checking with your buyer to see if they meant to leave it. If they didn't and they leave a follow up comment stating it was an error and meant to be a pos then ebay CS generally remove it. It saves you using up a feedback revision request!

was it something you could have resolved if they had contacted you first? the idea behind feedback is so that people can give their opinions,it sort of defeats the object if they have to contact you just so they can give you good feedback.
  • I've had a negative and a neutral when (personally) my service has been very good. I contacted them via the feedback forum asking them to amend or retract it and fortunately they both did. You could give that a go? x

It can stem from a desire to avoid interaction. If you consider ebay just as an online shop which can sell some niche items, then a lot of people go through the till and never think about the other people involved. Then you just leave the feedback you think is accurate.

I can understand a desire to fix it, but some people don't want the hassle of arguing a position with a complete stranger, maybe due to social anxiety or what have you. The counterpoint to "why do these people do this!?" is "you can never know why people do this, you'll never meet them."

You only get so many feedback revisions - I think it is 5 per 1000 transactions. If your neutrals were left in error then you don't really want to waste a 'revision' - please see my earlier post!!

CS have removed at least 4 'wrongly left negs/neutrals' for me simply because the buyer left a follow up comment saying it was an error.

It's absolutely infuriating especially when you could have easily resolved the problem. I got one really horrible negative feedback from a woman claiming I was a con artist because something I sent got broken in the post. I did have another one of the item. If she had contacted me I would have sent her it as a replacement, but I didn't bother offering it to her after she left that negative!

To be honest people do behave like this in real life, not just on ebay. I work in a friendly public library and get really annoyed when I have to reply to all the complaints in the comments box. Most of the complainers had not spoken to a member of staff in person and most of the complaints are either nothing to do with the library or could have been sorted out in 30 seconds.
  • TBH I think some people are serial complainers & whatever you do will not keep them happy.
  • I'm also unsure about positive being the default. Why shouldn't neutral be the default position. To me, neutral says "I bought an item, they supplied it". So why does leaving a neutral result in some much catastrophe? Why can we not have positive for exceptionally good, and negative for exceptionally bad? Neutrals seem to be treated as if they are as bad as negatives, and I don't really understand it.
