Surely 'Free E&W calls' must, by definition, be free?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    :D

At the moment they describe it as

"Unlimited FREE local and national landline calls of up to 60 minutes, during evenings or at the weekend"

But it costs a Monthly charge of £5.

So, that's "Unlimited [strike]free[/strike] local and national landline calls of up to 60 minutes, during evenings or at the weekend for a £5 (£3.75 from 1/10/06) monthly fee (subject also to the payment of a £1.76 per month membership fee)."

You could get the same thing (with a 90 minute, not 60 minute cap) for nothing if you just followed Martin's recommendation for a CPS provider.

Even just using www.call1899.co.uk, you could make 225 (183) UK 01/02 calls (of unlimited duration, not limited to 60 minutes) for £6.76 (£5.51) - and pay nothing if you didn't make any calls (e.g. when you're away on holiday).

  • Exactly!!!!! But i was intrigued to find out their new price from 1/10/2006,to see what was so good about it, that they might convert the sceptical.:rotfl:
  • Have now got hold of their new Phone Tariffs from 1/10/2006.Dont hold your breath.:D

    More Talk 1. No change.

More Talk 2. Inclusive Evening & Weekend Calls reduced to £3.75 a month ,from £5.

More Talk 3. Inclusive calls 24/7 still £9.50p a month.

Plus the £1.76p a month service charge.

Hardly likely to convert members of this forum.

    Comparing with BT:

Inclusive Evening & weekend calls £3.95 pm

    Inclusive calls 24/7 £9.95

BT line rental £11.00 pm No service charge

UW line rental £10 pm plus £1.76 service charge

So I make BT cheaper in both cases. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Even more expensive if you use caller display.which is Free with BT.
  • My friend's phone was reconnected yesterday afternoon, apparently there was a problem at the exchange. An engineer called round to check a crackle on the line and said that it was not possible for the line/number to be temporarily assigned to another customer, my friend suggested they tell that to the lady down the road.

Did she make a citizen's arrest or did she get a policeman to hide in her bushes. (To arrest the BT thief you started this thread about).

(I hope you have read this thread and were able to advise your friend/customer about contacting uw at least once every 48 hours to claim her compensation)
