Vodafone Fraud

I have been a victim of identity theft.
I received a welcome letter from Vodafone detailing my billing details etc etc. I have never used Vodafone, 02 all my life.
My name and address were correct but my bank details and sort code were incorrect.
Vodafone have since closed the account and written off the balance. They have sent me a letter detailing their actions as an audit trail.
I have lost no money (yet) and will have my credit strike lifted after 1 week.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?
Anything else i need to action/worry about?
Should Vodafone be doing more?

Many thanks in advance.

  • yep, same thing happened to me too, both vodafone and o2. In my case the surname was different, but everything else (first name and address) was mine. I checked my Equifax credit report and there was a credit check by phones4u for vodafone, I have asked them to remove this and look into it. Other than that, you are probably more in the know than me.

They'll be no impact on you. They'll clean up your credit file.

Have you noticed any post missing ? Statements, bills etc ? They might have lifted something with your address on it at some point ?
Do you dump stuff or shred it ?

    Cheers for replies.

Haven't noticed anything Jon and I am pretty thorough with such matters. I do shred everything in work, king-size shredder.

The main scams I have been aware of recently are garages issuing folk with a 2nd receipt (they tell you the 1st one has been chewed up and they keep it) and secure (?) online shopping, which I do quite a lot.

Fonz, I'll do the credit check in a bit and see what happens.

    Cheers.

    Anyone else? thanks.
