This phone is about 3.5 years old now. Yet it still sells for about £100 sim-free (even refurbished ones can be £80) - considering you can get some lower end smartphones for about £200 with a lot more features - why aren't phones like this cheaper?

Because it's a very good and solid basic phone and there is still a demand for it?No free lunch, and no free laptop0

if you look at the rest of the market there isnt much competition in its price range that is any more technologically advanced. it has a 2 mega pixel camera, a lot of phones are still being sold today with VGA or 1.3 mega pixel cameras so it still (unfortunately) holds a good middle ground in those areas.
in my opinion its quite a 'classic' design, as in it still looks fairly decent compared to some phones you can buy in 2010 today - let alone in 2006/2007 when it first came out. i would compare it to the Nokia 2730 that is still available for around £50 on the shelves in high street retail shops and in my opinion the 2730 looks worse than the 6300. these factors definately help it in holding its value.
also its made of metal which shows that its less of a 'disposable' mobile compared to a lot of others in the market even by todays standards.
however a quick google shopping search shows that some companies are selling it for £50 upwards though so you may not have to spend £100 to get one?0 -
Thanks for your replies Yes I have seen some around £50 but when I clicked they were with contract0
