People often go on about the right to buy scheme, but privatisation of our national infrastructure was another of the main planks of thatcherism.
And like RTB, it was sold to the working class as their chance of joining the share owning elite.
And not only would they get richer, but because of the "competition" of the "free market" , service would improve and prices would reduce
This promise of riches softened the blow of reality which was that service got worse and the bankers and their friends got richer.
Now I am all for the free market, but their are some things which should be under national control for the good of everyone.
In this I would include at the very least trains, water, sewage, gas and electric"The problem with quotes on the internet is that you never know whether they are genuine or not" -

I'm not a big fan of nationalisation, but I would like to see greater energy security. This needn't necessarily be by nationalisation, but I do think the government should have a mechanism for storing gas in this country for our winters, so that we're not a week or two away from a crisis next time Ukraine and Russia (or whoever else is in the way) have a spat.
