And how exactly do you propose the universally acknowledged bankrupt Exchequer pays for these renationalisations? And what happens if individual shareholders like me refuse to sell.

Well, we part-nationalised some banks without too much trouble. :)

Why don't you list the choices... I've no idea what has been taken/given/whatever...

I think you may as well just assume that we have virtually nothing involving infrastructure that hasnt been sold, and most of that to foreign companies.

Buying stakes at depressed share prices is as far away from the concept of nationalisation, as I am from looking like Johnny Depp.

You can't nationalise something if individual shareholders don't want to sell.

I think Northern Rock shareholders were once of this opinion.

We could do what is popularly known as a "Chavez"?;)
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Given the state of the government's finances shouldn't we be looking at what to sell off, rather than renationalise?

    Precisely.

And it's already happening. They will start to divest of the stakes in the banks next year. They've already started the process to get rid of Dover Ports, and other likely targets for privatisation include the Tote, the student loan book, HS2 etc.

    And long may it continue.

The railways – the whole system still relies on government subsidy, why not stop pretending the disastrous privatisation has worked.
    Another vote for this one.

The railways are really poor value for money in this country; no wonder the roads are clogged.

Being able to commute cost effectively is a real enabler for people travelling to where the jobs are.

Basically, I would rather like the post office and BBC radio to be privatised, but it makes sence to either renationalise the railways, or remove the subsidy so they are operating as private companies.

Railways - Everytime I have dealings with them they need to send at least 5 people from different organisations, yet none of them seem to be in charge of "the railway" and the person who can make a decision never seems to be invited!
