  • The OP asked the question of if the door would be open.

presently, there is a general recruiting ban, ost the press are reporting this but if you look t he Army web page, it says they are desperate for some trade areas. so if he is open minded when he re-visits the career office place, there is chance doors could open. slim, but a chance. Let them tell him his options, not him go in with a list of demands.
Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!

I have never even heard my OH (serving squaddie) raise his voice.

You've never heard him march a squad round the parade square yet then !:D

I must admit I'm not massively sympathetic. That being said depending on where you live is perhaps joining 4 Para an option? Your son then might get opportunites leading on from that.

Who would you rather send thousands of miles overseas to stick a bayonet on the end of his rifle, face (and kill) people who would cut his limbs off rather than speak to him and expect him to put his life on the line for you???

    A Librarian perhaps??

There is a VERY fine line between what we expect our Servicemen to do and Yobbish behaviour.
Trying to train them well enough to want to fight to Kill, whilst maintaining their discipline is a very difficult task.

Sometimes those boundaries cloud over(especially after drink is involved)

It has often shocked me to see how violent squaddies are, fighting, vandalism, even muggings seem to go relatively unpunished (aside for a few extra duties).
If any group of people are going to have to engage in a physical fight to the death, I would rather those guys went to do it.... rather than a Librarian.

Sounds like the OP's Son was one guy who couldn't maintain the discipline along with the physical demands, which led to violence surfacing when it should have been controlled.

EDIT: My reply was aimed at a post full of abuse above this toward the OP's Son, this post was in defence of both the OP's son, and the Armed Forces in General.
The abusive post has been deleted now. :)
Have you got ANY IDEA what rubbish your post was?
I am ex RM of 12 years (left after the gulf war), and you are tarring everyone in the forces with the same brush.

Maybe if you had any clue about the forces in general, you wouldn't feel the need to post on a subject you obviously know nothing about.

Not getting into this on here, I joined the Forces a couple of years after the Falklands War (84) and left in 2008.

I've spend many many years working with all three services and am fully aware of what I am talking about.

If you look at the bottom of my post you will see it was aimed at a disparaging response to all Services, which has now been deleted.

Of course it doesn't "tar everyone with the same brush".

Are you seriously suggesting throughout your "meagre" 12 years in the Forces you have NEVER seen any violence between servicemen or any who have ABSOLUTELY Embarrassed the Crown when batfaced??

I could sit here and spin dits for hours about some of the behaviour I have witnessed during my 23 years of Service, but as you say "it would paint everyone in the same light", which wouldn't be fair.

    Freaking bootnecks ;);)

Think of it as a favour.

Your son can do better than being used as cannon fodder.

What paragraph of the Queen's Regulations 1975 was your son discharged under? It will say so on his discharge paperwork, if you google it you will find out the reason for his discharge.

If he was discharged on diciplinary grounds then he would have gone through a due process and been given the opportunity to appeal, if this is the case he is unlikely to be able to re-enlist. His discharge grading "or reference" would be something other than Exemplary, such as Very Good or Good.

If he was discharged as a manning review then again he would have been notified, but he would also be able to apply to re-enlist when manning changes occur.

Also, if your son was discharged for racist remarks or bringing the Army into disrepute he would have been on OC's Orders, then CO's Orders, he could also have gone as far as Courts Martial, at all stages he would have been fully involved otherwise his discharge would not have been authorised. No soldier can simply be just kicked out without proper process.

Did he serve any time in Military Detention? Did he get any resettlement?
