orange number swap
hi
new to these forums so this may have been asked before...
basically I have 2 orange contracts, one (number A) expires in about 6 months (£27/mo), the other (number
in 9 months (£35/mo iPhone).
I want to transfer the number B out to another provider and move number A onto the iPhone contract, so buying out the (shorter) £27/month one and keeping the iPhone contract.
the Orange CS rep I spoke to said they can't do that and I'd have to buy out both my contracts and get a new iPhone contract for number A () since once number B gets ported out, the contract ends.
so I am wondering if I can do it in a roundabout way:
1. Transfer out number A to a PAYG SIM from another provider - then i'd have to buy out the £27/month one.
2. Request PAC codes for both numbers
3. First transfer number A into the iPhone contract, then use the existing PAC code to transfer number B away.
What I am worried about is once number A is transferred "over" number B, that the PAC code will be invalidated and I will lose number B.
Has anyone ever done this, or is there another way to do this?
I might try to ask Orange if they can simply swap the numbers on my two contracts, but I think I know what the answer will be...
Thanks

Unless they have changed it you can only port in to orange up to 6 months from connection - so that rules out your plan.
However, more importantly they are correct that when you port out B, your account is closed. You can't have an account without a number for any amount of time, nor can a port in and out be concurrent. Once you port out on a or b, the account will be closed and invoiced so no chance of porting in the a number.
Without knowing Orange's system 100% (my background is 10 yrs at Voda and a few more at P4u) a number swap might be possible, since all they are doing is assigning a msisdn to a sim no - but their system may simply not have the option to do it.0
