did anyone watch that Sarah Beeny show about problem houses

Who watched episode 2? (last night)
Extension literally falling off the back of the house but the concensus was to continue to decorate the room and try and forget about it. Surely if (after investigations) it needs the £20k of support underneath then that whole kitchen would need to come out?
Yes I found that staggering - instead of spending on getting the problem rectified (or waiting for the insurance to decide) spend ££££'s on a new kitchen!0 -
It didn't take a surveyor or Sarah Beeny to see that the kitchen was literally falling off the back of that house LOL!0

Watched the first ridiculous episode but they've stretched the Beeny machine way too far this time. There was no logic to the owners situation. Why no survey? They were hardly bothered about all the problems, no mention of any listed building restrictions, supposedly had no money at all to fix things, suddenly lots of mates turn up to do the work for free, they were planning to spend a measely £5K to convert their loft. Ms Beeny returns and everything is shiny and new, including a converted loft and ensuite - that lot must have cost a small fortune - £5K my a**e!
Time we all tunned out and stopped supporting Ms Bump and her ever expanding brood.0 -
Did last nights lot have a survey done? I missed the start of it so I don't know for sure I just assumed they did because there wasn't a constantly voice over talkng about how important it is to get a survey done0

couldnt believe that the crack wasnt present when they viewed the house, couldnt believe the hadn't done anything about their rat problem, why not try and sort out the drains as it was fairly obvious they were leaking and couldnt believe they then spent a fortune on the kitchen when it was going to have to be underpinned in the v near future.
lots of other things irritated me about it - did they have any sort of survey done?
they couldn't have been so stupid could they?'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0 -
I'm so glad other people spotted that woman is like Kirstie Allsop (although I do like Phil N Kirsty) in the state of perma pregnancy!
The second one amused me - so basically they had ZERO cash (£40 to last the fortnight was mentioned at one point), but daddy went on a DIY rampage and they got a camera crew in to essentially - stick some rat poison down, sort out a dodgy waste pipe and stick an insurance claim in, and plaster over a whacking big crack that I think even me in my most dappy blonde moment ever would have at least spotted on the outside of the house! Oh... and scrub some mould off with bleach and open some windows.
That Beanie woman annoys me anyway - she's like an ever present voiceover of doom on all her shows and you can almost see her visibly sulking when they ignore her advice and it turns out all right anyway. Can just imagine her in Tescos: "Bob, despite my best recommendations, has gone for the Big and Fresh eggs. This could have catastrophic implications for his shopping budget and he really needs to work out an omlette contingency."Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Just wondering as I've only ever had mortgage valuations in the past but these programs have made me consider (if I ever move again) about paying for the full report.
I've seen full surveys, they are really very detailed indeed....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
The last thing I would want if my house was falling down was Sarah cheer up Beeny round to state the obvious.
Surely if you really didn't have any cash there'd be no point even going on the programme, they must get at least a bit of fairy dusting as otherwise there would be no happy ending.0 -

They wouldn't have had to take the kitchen out in order to underpin the foundation, this is done externally.
They clearly didn't have the money to pay for the underpinning but were lucky that the insurance paid for it. It somehow restores my faith in insurance companies.
What they did with the movement joint was very good.0 -

I watched this, and like lots of you was staggered at the fact they didn't have the/no money to underpin the extension, but DID have some for a brand new kitchen, Dining table, furniture for the front room, new toilet, doors downstairs, and the whole house re-decorated :rotfl:.
apparently the voice over man said that they did the underpinning through a cash injection from the woman's dad :T.If you dont ask you dont get to know....Sealed pot no2770
