recently bought a cheap gti as a project and was wondering if anyone on here knows of some decent places online to get parts?
need some new parts like head gasket set etc and also good used like bumpers and some trim.

dont want to pay through the nose just after somewhere is a reasonable price.

Parts like headgaskets, bearings, brakes, suspension etc are still available from motor factors.
  • Euro car parts.

apart from a Couple of Vectras I run Volkswagens and use EuroCarParts mostly. GSF are Ok but tend to get better quality branded if not OE spec stuff from ECPS

To go against the grain, I've had a lot of shockingly bad parts from ECP.

I like buypartsby.com, hard to beat their prices on a lot of parts (especially timing belt kits) but for headgaskets etc, I'd definately buy from a factor for the backup.

Taking the head off to find there are 15 different combinations of gaskets fitted, and the one you have is wrong is no fun when you've bought a part online..... Trust me here.

Lot of factors will be looking to clear this old stuff from their bins now, so you might get a suprise if they have the parts kicking around in a dusty corner of the depot.

    Regards,
    Andy

One more question I was told it is a 1.9 in a 1.6 body but I am not too sure it is.
It has yellow injectors but no oil cooler the filter is directly on block,I have got a number off plate by timing cover any idea what engine it is?
1CW3U difficult to make out but I think there is also B6A on a second plate next to it.

I think that's a 1.6 is there a spacer between block and sump? Even if it is then the 1.6 is more fun.

Ecp parts I have had have been poor.

Check out my project on drivers in the starters section, I post as masekwm

  • I'm in no means meaning anyone to get emotional here but in just what way is the 1.6 more fun than the 1.9?

    B6A Sounds like the 1.6 105bhp XU5.

The 1.6 is better to drive, the 1.9 is a lazy engine. The 1.6 has a shorter ratio gearbox.
