*things* *stuff* really have cluttered my life and I am slowly ebaying them :):) I think you have done very well making the move is the hardest thing.. everything else you can do in your own time....I admire anybody that decides to make a difference in their life... For me at 46 it was hard, but it would have been harder to carry on like we were... We rent our house out or will do from the end of this month, but we spend from Friday to Sunday on the boat... By the end of this month we hope to have our bathroom in on the boat so we can move.... The setbacks we have had are just like any setbacks in life... although sometimes you do find yourself wishing for a *break* :) We wanted to sell our house but here in the north-west the housing market is still very slow.............

Wow bast - congratulations and hope it all goes well for "the move" - does this mean you will be having a boat-warming party :D

I would offer you a mooring on the stream down here but it;s a tad narrow and is (normally) so shallow that it can;t even accomodate a duck :rotfl::rotfl:.....at least the pigggies would only get their paws vaguely wet if they fell in

Wol, thank you, thank you for the description of the batch cooking! So basically, its lots of base veggies, some with one form of protein, some with another, and also varying the spices and herbs? That sounds doable. So for me, the base would be onions, tomatoes, carrots and something else - turnip or something - with a bit of soy also in the base cos its so healthy. Then the protein could be quorn, a mix of pulses, lentils or nuts and seeds. I think I might freeze the veggies and protein separately .... and then just whuff up the carbs - potato, rice, barley, whatever. Excellent!

That's about it Hun - when we have our next gardening day, we'll aslo discuss possible recipes and combinations :D....don;t forget sweet potato and butternut squash

The cage you're trying to put together - it takes as long as it takes! Please, please don't beat yourself up and start on el vino again, not when you've been doing so well. Hot choccie is definitely called for, tho I do understand how different spirits are from your normal tipple. I can't get on with spirits either - even fortified wine can make my eyes cross :) I know you'll take mucho care of the piggies, but remember if its two hours for two people, that doesn't mean four hours for one person - it means, five, six, seven hours, cos like we said, things are always quicker with two people. Take care of yourself as well as the piggies.

Nope - no problem with el vino tonight....I know that because my mind is now in a good place :D

So I shall now toddle off and get the rest of this cage built

    Thank Hun

:kisses3: I'm pleased for you, it sounds good.

I'm going to focus on the batch cooking, not only because of the size of the oven and the need to use it if I switch it on for *any* reason, but also cos I do have my spiffy new freezer, and the need to stop overdosing on pesto :o

  • I had a rat cage that was in the style of a bird aviary, had me in tears, you had to hold three bits together to put this "thing"through them all but my arm wasn't long enough to go round the cage and I ended up with bruises and all sorts. And then the sliding the last bit in. I wasn't tall enough for that! God it it took hours! so I feel your pain!

big hugs for everything else as well

The cage design is not brilliant for piggies and I have omitted some things - and have also left the roof off cos it serves my purpose better.....but still need to do some interior decor for them obviously - you know wallpaper/paint etc etc :whistle::whistle:

but piggies are now exploring their much bigger home and most importantly...... it's now located above previous water levels :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

....oooh and Lewis was on so I had good entertainement at the same time :)

Tomorrow I can put Bailey in his new cage and get him out of the bath.....(ooopps.....I guess forgot to tell you all that Bailey has been living quite happily in my bath(on towels and fleece) for the last two or more weeks :rotfl:)....well your honour, his previous cardboard box was way too small so the bath seemed like a good place/space at the time to exercise his little leggies :o

I absolutely deternined to live up to my reputation as the mad guinea pig woman of Sussex :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

OK - final post for tonight - but it's quite a significant one.

My first diary on MSE was started by my dear frind Piglet after bad boy Beechie knackered my hand back in 2008. Those that have followed all of the diaires know that there have been "complications" and I was faced with the option this year of even more surgery. I will unfortunately never recover my piano playing abilities...but to just be able to shake hands with someone without shooting through the ceiling would be a bonus (especially as I am in business and shaking hands is part of every day life)

So, finally I got an NHS referral to Chelmsford to try a pioneering new treatment that fires electric pulses down the nerve in an attempt to try and "tolerise" it and thus reduce the pain and hypersensitivty that exists all the time in my fingers/hand.
So far it;s looking like the treatment may have some benefit. I got my hand zapped two weeks ago and for at least four days afterwards it was a bit surreal....there was no pain or discomfort and I could actually put my hand in my jeans pocket or my handbag..:j...and pick up coins from my purse instead of fumbling around.:j.and I haven;t dropped a mug or plate..:j..and I could shake hands:j..but unfortunately after 4 days it was back...:(

But - it DID last 4 days which is the cut-off point. So while it's early days, I have passed the test and they think it's worth continuing with this treatment so in future I might be able to go 5 days , one week or even more..... so I am now booked in weekly for the next 4 weeks.

When you live with something day in day out - you kind of get used to it....but when it's gone (even if only briefly for a couple of days) ...it's truly liberating ..and you then realise how much it was impinging on your day to day activities....

Since the first treatment two weeks ago, I have been counting the hours untill the next treatment today...and to have an evening tonight with a fully functioning right hand (and be able to build a pigie cage) is really something to sing about :D

Wol, thats so lovely! I completely understand about what its like to be free of a chronic condition - I've had that experience with sore throats (vanished after 18 months of cranial osteopathy, worth every penny) and IBS - which is back a little bit sometimes, but at least I know why now.

I'm really glad you've been accepted for a course of treatment. Is it a TENS machine you're referring to, or something more specialised?

Hello Wol, and what fantastic news about the treatment for your hand! Keep at it, you are sure to get some function back even if you have to develop a left handed handshake for now! (Cue rolled up trouser legs, ropes and handcuffs)

Well done re the batch cooking, sounds like we'll see you on Masterchef before long.

My chickens - I only have the one at present, Rocky had to be rehomed as constant visits from neighbouring cats were stressing her out. She is happy strutting around with 20 or so other chickens on the allotments nearby. Lou, the remaining one, still lays eggs most days. As the days get shorter egg laying does tail off - firstly, natural light is part of the process, and secondly she is due to start moulting sometime soon, and all the chicken's energy then goes into making new feathers, so I expect eggs to stop appearing once we get into winter and to resume early spring. We are looking to get another chicken or maybe a couple of bantams then to keep her company.

Keep plodding on and stick with the hot chocolate, very comforting these cool nights!
