Driving newly bought car with no tax

Hi
My daughter has seen a car she wants to buy, but it has no tax and the owner has transferred the insurance to a new car, so he no longer has insurance so can't tax the car. I have no problem getting insurance sorted, but have to wait for a posted certificate before the car can be taxed, so the car will be insured and has a current MOT, just no tax. Is there any simple way of getting it home, or will she have to wait for the insurance certificate to arrive before taxing and driving it?

Not unless you can get it towed, transported or know someone with Trade Plates, I do not think so.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

get the insurance company to email or fax the insurance to you, they accept them at the post office now.

Thats good to know as I've had nothing but problems in the past getting tax using Swiftcover.com. I argued that all they wanted was my certificate to be printed in colour!
    Always got mine on-line since!

If you really want to bring it home before you can tax it then book it in for an MOT and use the “on the way to a pre-booked MOT” exemption from needing tax.

Assumes you have somewhere off road to store it at home.

    Evening everyone ;)

It is possible to tax online from this link: http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/Evl...sh&pageid=Home

Click on the blue sign, tick 'Yes' to each Q and then enter either the reminder number or if you haven't had the reminder then you can do it with the vehicle reg and document number from the V5 :D

DVLA computer checks the car has a current MOT (if applicable) and has insurance then Voila!, issues your tax disc.

I've just bought a car. Didn't even have the V5, just the small change of ownership part of the sent off V5 (does list doc no. on though) but still managed to tax online :T

Hope that helps sort it for you ;)

    Stephen :)

Towing an untaxed car on the road is illegal.

Correct me if I am wrong, the car cannot have all four tyres on the road and must only have two?
Or is that only with a car being towed without an MOT??
