Basically need to know cheapest option for an xp operating disc.
My wifes old Dell laptop packed up a couple of weeks ago so it was sold for parts.
We then got her a 2nd hand Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile Laptop which had vista installed - but today the vista stopped working saying something like it was an unauthorised copy.
OK i though, i still have the xp service pack 2 operating disc from the old Dell, so installed that today - but then realised i didn't have the COA needed to activate it.
I tried the COA sticker on the Esprimo, but that didn't work, and then tried the COA generated by Magic Jellybean, but again that didn't work.
I phoned the Microsoft automated telephone line, and each time was told probable piracy.
I'm guessing the Dell xp disc was OEM and won't activate as it's being used on an Esprimo.
So now i have 30 days to try and find a fix, or source a cheap xp disc with COA with the last resort being installing Ubuntu.
Anyone got any advice?

needs a fujitsu OEM copy for the COA to work , the dell one will only work on Dell OEM as you have found out
think you can only source it on Ebay these daysEx forum ambassador

Try puppy linux, it is quite easy to use and you can download a live CD to try out.
I have it on a laptop and it works perfectly ,finds my camera and the TV stick and there are lots of free software packages for it.
You can even run it from a usb key.0 -

Scout Ebay for a Fujitsu OEM disk
Buy a generic OEM disk with a bit of h/w from eBuyer
Buy a Vista upgrade disk from Amazon and do a 'double install' so Vista upgrades itself0 -

Check your PMs. I'm assuming that the COA on the Fujitsu is for XP.0 -

It doesn't matter. It will run better with XP anyway. Assuming that with Vista Basic it came with no more tha 1GB RAM. Just check that their are XP drivers available. If there are no drivers available for XP, I'm sure we can find you a Vista disc.
Check your PMs again.
Which model exactly is it?0 -

V5535 and yeah 1 gig ram.
I did have a number of driver issues, but found a programme to identify the wireless internet one - downloaded that driver, then connected and ran the Fujitsu driver update tool which found, downloaded and installed the rest.
I'm not getting any validation issues now, so fingers crossed it's all sorted.
Thanks to everyone for their input.0 -

Have you already installed the new disc? If not, you may have problems later.0
