Cleaning a patio

Our builders have just finished and the patio is very dirty. What is the best way to clean it and with what.

We do not have a pressure washer so will be doing it manually somehow.

I use warm soapy water on it and lots of elbow grease (and a brush) :D

Thanks for reply - I wondered if there was any proprietary brand that I can use?

Scrubbing brush, elbow grease and washing powder (eco-friendly of course) should come up a treat. Works on decking too.

Can you not borrow a pressure washer?
They are fairly common place these days.

Doing it by hand will be MUCH more difficult especially if the area is large.
I've never had much luck doing it by hand despite hard scrubbing but pressure washers work really well with no elbow grease.
  • I would ask around friends, you tend to find someone has one.

If not I am sure a hire company can loan one.

We pressure washed our patio today, and despite it being legal, we still got gasps from our neighbours, we in a hose pipe ban region.

It was actually more effective than loads of water from a hosepipe as it blasted it so quickly.

We had a dreadful odd job man who laid it for us, and left loads of cement marks on the patio, and then our new patio furniture leaked stain over the newly laid stones with the recent rain, so it was great to blast it all away.

    Definitely recommend it.

Thanks for sugestions. We have a white rendered house which has just been painted - its the painters who left the patio dirty. I dont want to use a pressure washer as it will ruin the brand new paintwork. (I have used one in the past and even with a guard they splash and loose flakes come of the wall)

There's a local chap in our area who cleans drives and patios's with a pressure washer. He uses a large sheet of hard board/ply 4'x8' to protect vunerable areas and then gently hoses down any overspray at the end of the job. Shouldn't have an issue with the walls if you don't spray too close to them! Woolies are doing power washers for £14.99 at the moment!
I'm mad!!!! :rotfl::jand celebrating everyday every year!!!
