Our washing machine is leaking and is pretty old so don't think it is worth fixing (we bought off a friend for £50 about 6 years ago!) anyway the idea was to buy a cheap one and put it in the garage with the dryer but we cannot think of aything useful for the space we really like or need or that fits properly so have gone back to looking at machines.
Have fallen in love with 2 black ones and wondered if anyone had either of them, the whirlpool seems to be unable to buy online and there was no code for it instore so unable to post link but is the same give or take as the hotpoint but an 8kg, the whirlpol is a 7kg both were reduced in currys (£350 as opposed to £500) ..although prob wont buy from them.
Thanks

I personally wouldn't buy either. Hotpoint are not known for their reliability and in my experience have ended up replacing their appliances every couple of years. I haven't met anyone who owns a whirlpool appliance that hasn't complained about its reliability.
I would personally go for a Bosch, we have one and it takes a right hammering, but two and a half years without a single problem. You will easily get one for the prices you are talking about.0 -
I agree with the above!! We had a hotpoint about 3 years ago, it gets replaced under warranty approx every six months for various different faults, about 18 months ago they replaced it with an indesit (same compnay as HP) and that is just as bad - wish we had got a Bosch!!!
I know we get them replaced, so have a new machine every 6 months but it is the hassle to sort it out each time - you have to have 3 or 4 repairs, 2 weeks without a working machine and spend endless hours on the phone complaining!!0 -
Hi thanks for the replies.
Our last washing machine was an indesit and fantastic, we then bought a tumble dryer as that was so good and it was awful so we changed for a different one and it has been fine.(cant think what it is called!)
The washing machine now is a Hoover and has like i said been going for about 6 years..it has moved house approx 4 times between me and my friend and is great BUT as i said leaking but also have just done anopther wash and it stinks..have re washed and the same prob after we have cleaned it out loads..does anyone know how to solve this?
Grr was hoping to just put up with the leaking due to the fact we get everything broken or lost or damaged etc but is looking unlikely we can wait.
Also! i am not one of these name people i just dont get the whole Bosch/Miele thing, my friend bought one a long time back for about £700, guess what she doesnt have it now and ours has out lasted hers as we have had 2 for less then her one!0 -
Well our current washing machine is not a Hoover it's actually a Hotpoint..oops! After me and dh saying it has been really good we looked into getting the one above and everywhere says it is either out of stock or discontinued so figured a waste of time.
We have gone with a black one from Argos, got 10% off and it's coming wednesday..3 hour time slot..perfect! Have to say i am so picky as although it is more expensive to get the same one in silver i prefer the black, also i am that picky that if the silver doesnt match it will bug me!!.hope we dont have too much black!
Thanks for the replies.x0 -
Bought a basic Bosch for £299.00 a few months back and it works great so far.0

I have this one from currys LG F1443KD6 DIRECT DRIVE WASHING MACHINE BLACK
its pricey but i think its worth it i have 2 toddlers and it has a steam wash function, baby wash, hand wash,15 minute refresh shirt function,it really has every function you can think of plus takes huge loads its A++ rated so should save on the electric, the whites come out really white and the direct drive in it comes with a 10 yr warranty.0 -
Thanks
woodbutcher see you dont have to have a named machine i don't think for it to do a good job..glad you are happy with it.
lwc86 we have an LG fridge in glossy black and i love it! this new ones has a big 8kg was load does half loads, a wash in 39 mins and washes double duvets etc which i found good..all the other things i may not use much but seem pretty common on new machines.0 -
I've had an LG direct drive washing machine for about 3 years now with no problems.
The best thing is it is sooooooo quiet - awesome0 -
btw ..dont get conned by the latest tend ...the the huge door. ...
they all have the same size drum inside ...as the small door models.
think they put different bearings in them to up from 7 kg to 8 kg.
i have a zaniucci ........cant say i like it that much ..as it cold fills ..hot and cold ..even on the boil wash ..so you are paying to heat the water again expensively ..
of course the washing manufacturors will say ..ah that gives a better wash ..utter dcrap when you have dirty oiley work clothes in there.
you need hot .hot and more hot ....i dive for the cold valve and turn the thing off.
best washer i ever had was a creda micro-electronic 1000 ..that was an ace machine ..that detected the input heat and varied all the progs .
but that was over 20 years ago ..they have gone backwards since.
all the best.markj0 -
We had an indesit that lasted for about 12 years and got a right hammering - extra large and heavy loads and used at least once per day and usually more, it was great and when it finally gave up we replaced it with another indesit. Guess what - it lasted 18 months, then came a quick sucession of hoover, hotpoint etc and they were all rubbish. I guess what i`m trying to say is that they don`t seem to make them to last like they used to. Whirlpool have an awful reputation too.
My latest machine is an AEG and we`ve had this one for 9 years without a single problem, my mum has a bosch and hers is 14 ish years old. If i had to replace mine i`d go for AEG or Bosch as they seem to be the only two makes built to last. Mine even still spins quietly even after all this time when the others used to make a right racket after a few months.
