Cancelled contract

Hi All, I phoned Orange on 1/5/10 to cancel my Contract and asked for my (PAC) code. I was told I must use it within 30 days or it would not work. By the time it arrived I decided not to use it as I had got use to the number that came with my new o2 contract. When I cancelled on 1st May I removed the O2 sim and cancelled direct debit. I also emailed them to say I have cancelled my contract (I did get a reply saying that the email address was not the one for cancelling contracts) But I thought as I have already cancelled I would not have to email. On the 15 jul I got a letter from Orange saying I owe £119.43 I phoned them and at first was told it was a mistake but I do owe £42.43 for May (which I queried) Then was told no my contract was still running and they had been trying to contact me on the phone I had taken the sim out. Surly they should be able to tell that phone had not been used for 3 months. I emailed there contact address and got a call back to discus my problem when she checked with the people who send out PAC codes they had no record of sending me one. I said well you did as I have it here. She said she would not be able to help but she would get her manager to phone back and if I did not hear within 3 days to phone back. I did not hear back so called and spoke to a man who said you cannot cancel contract and have PAC code you must do one or the other. I explained that I was not told this when I phoned to cancel and get PAC code. He said it is on the letter that came with the pack code that if you do not use it your contract will continue. On the letter it states "If you decide not to use the code before the expiry date, your account will remain active and you can continue to use your phone and services with Orange as normal." I do not think that meant that my contract would carry on. I had an 18 month contract that ended on the end of May. I have refused to pay do you think I am right and who can I complain too.

Which part of if you don't use your code, your account will remain active and you can carry on as normal, did you think meant that your contract would be cancelled whether you used it or not?

Unfortunately you are not right, just pay and move on. It's a battle you are unlikely to win

There is a difference between asking for a PAC code and cancelling.

The latter means you give up your mobile number, the former is a means to transfer your number to another carrier.

People sometimes ask for a PAC code before searching for a new contract or as a means of getting a better offer from their carrier, but don't then use it.

Kai666 is correct - if a little harsh ;) The wording is totally unambiguous and you are liable.

Please don't cancel your DD and refuse to pay, as this will lead to you having a black mark on your Credit record which, in turn, will lead to all sorts of bother in the future.

On a personal note, your post is almost unintelligible. Can you please make some paragraphs in future rather than letting everything run into one confused jumble? If you do, your chances of getting replies is much higher.
