Amazon refund to closed Natwest account.

Hi,
If anyone can help.
Basically, I closed my Natwest Step Account a month ago.
I had a refund from Amazon on 04/08/2010 for a product I returned - the refunded amount went unto the debit card attached to the Natwest Step Account that I closed.
I contacted Amazon who told me to check with my bank. I went into Natwest today and straight off the help desk told me if the account was closed then no payment would have been accepted - it would have bounced back to Amazon. I have contacted Amazon and they say I need to go back to the bank again of which I said I have already been there and they refuse to do a trace.
I dont know what else to do apart from write a letter to my branch and to Amazon hoping that they can both do something about this.
Has anyone experienced this before or any advice is appreciated.
thanks

You are asking Natwest to do a trace on something that isnt there, what do you expect them to find?
This lies with Amazon.0 -
Can't speak for NatWest, but the Royal Mail refunded 19p to a Nationwide account I closed some 11 months previously. A cheque came in the post from Nationwide, for 19p. I banked it straight away.43580

What should happen is amazon wont be able to refund to the natwest account if they do it will be held in a suspense account and they send you a cheque for the balance.0

You're only on the 4th working day since the refund. The Bank need to push it back from the suspense account it will have defaulted into - so possibly a few more days before it gets back to Amazon. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

Thanks everyone for the response, I will give it a couple of more days. I will let you know what happens. Thanks0

Hi Guys,
Still waiting for my refund. Its been about 14 days since the refund was issued and I am beginning to feel I wont see my money again.
I have sent a letter to my branch but still waiting for a reply, Also sent an email to Amazon Customer Service which told me they would forward it unto the Billing Department and give me a response by 20/08/2010.
I just hope I can get the money back soon.

Hi,
Just an update and I need advice on the next step?
11/08/2010 - Sent a letter to the Natwest branch of which I had my account opened detailing the details of the Amazon refund including the transaction reference number Amazon billing department gave me.
20/08/2010 - Amazon customer service contacted me saying refund issued on the 5/08/2010 was not rejected by the bank and I should ask for an official letter headed paper from the bank saying they don't have the money.
23/08/2010 - Went into Natwest branch and told cutomer help desk my problem - straight away was told money would have been rejected. Tried to give her transaction id to run a trace or issue me with a letter saying they dont have the money so I could go back to Amazon but she says the bank dont do that.
23/08/2010 - Went back home typed another letter and sent via post to Natwest branch detailing my encounter on my visit and requesting a letter saying the money was rejected so I could go back to Amazon.
28/08/2010 - No response from Natwest from my initial 11/08/2010 letter and the one dated 23/08/2010.
I don't know what other action to take and I need some helpful advice. The refunded amount was for over £1000. thanks0 -
Dear ojo'
Perhaps you should consider writing to their headquarters with details about the account, money transferred to them from amazon .send the same copy to amazon headquarters i.e customer services rather than the frontline staff who are either limited in time or fob you off.
Next i would visit them constantly for the week until they know your name and face .they will probably move their feet to get onto headquarters them selves by fax, computer or calls.
Speak to the manager/ess of your branch identifying wo you have spoken too either by phone or in person. They will either have an id badge on or willing to tell you.
As a health care worker i respond if you are polite and determined. If that does not work then explain the difficulties this is having for you and significant and that you want it resolved today.
Ask for a quiet room to talk to them then they will either make an appointment if no-one is availiable do this on the third day if no joy.
Hope this helps

I know this might be a stupid question but did Nat West actually close the account or did OP merely withdraw the balance? Has he had a closing statement?
If the account has actually closed then I agree with other posters it is Amazon that you should be chasing not the bank. With the amount being £1000 then it could be money laundering guidelines that is causing Amazon to delay the refund.0 -

Thanks Reall,
I will write to the headquarters of Amazon and Natwest and visit the branch next week again and request to see someone about this. Last time I got turned around from the customer help desk, I will see what happens this time - I will take the latest communication I have received from Amazon and see if this helps to get someone to talk to me.0
