Using a wifi abroad

I am a bit of a technophobe. I am going to tunisia in a weeks time and I have an iphone 4, the hotel has free wifi, I was assuming I wouldnt be able to use this because of it being abroad, but am I able to and if so what would it cost me?

thanks in advance

It's using the hotels internet connection, not your phones mobile internet. Therefore it'll be free.

Use the hotel's free wifi (there may be a password which reception can provide). Make sure you turn off data roaming before you leave home so you don't unintentionally end up using mobile data instead of wifi.

I don't have an iPhone (mines' a Desire) but there'll be a menu option somewhere. Hopefully, a helpful iPhone owner will be along shortly to provide more detailed instructions.

Settings/general/network then you will see a box to turn off data roaming.

    Hi

I just saw this thread and also wanted to say to watch out for call charges.

When you connect to a foreign network you get charged for any calls that come through to your phone EVEN if you don't answer it and it goes to voicemail.

If you need your phone to receive/make calls whilst you are away then that's fine, just switch the data roaming feature off, but if you don't need the phone for calls and just want to use it with wifi then switch the phone to airplane mode first (before you leave UK). Leave it on airplane mode whilst you are away, switch back when you land in UK.

    Happy travels!
