Bank customer obtains default judgment against bank!!!

Is the worm starting to turn?

Ms Saunders claimed £922 in the county court, arguing that charges levied by the bank on her were an unlawful penalty.

The bank didn't respond to the summons. She doesn't know if it was sheer incompetence or a deliberate decision not to contest it and risk creating a bad precedent. Laura, assisted by a tenacious friend, who wants to be known only as Bob, then entered a default judgment but the bank did not pay on time.

    LOL :D

The banks days are numbered .......... :)
  • And so Yorkshire Bank joins my list of 'don't touch with a bargepole' financial institutions.

In fact, they've scored a first because all the others on my list have only achieved 'don't touch again .....' status.

They're on mine too! They messed me about when I wanted a switch card. I now have one somewhere else, and I keep a bit of money in my Yorkshire bank account just so they keep sending me statements

So clearly you're looking forward to:

Keeping your money under the mattress. Burglars please note.

Carrying cash with you in large amounts. Muggers please note, especially when you buy your next car etc.

Queuing at the diminishing number of POs to buy Postal or Money Orders to pay your bills. (Provided you haven't been burgled ot muggedthat is).

    At the idea, I'm:rotfl:

That was the one that started it all. I found that case some time ago, and it's what prompted me to go after my bank and subsiquently start the CAG website.

As to keeping my money under the mattress etc... I agree. I think my money would be much safer pitted against burglars and muggers.

I have bought a house and a car with cash - no problem at all. The only problem arose when I tried to use the bank to do it. They claimed not to have notice of the money I needed to take out (despite me sending them notice recorded delivery), and then because no cash-point holds that sort of cash, I had to actually pay 300 quid to get them to get my cash out!

At least burglars and muggers are honest about their theft.

Why did you have to pay £300 to get your money out?

Because they didn't have the cash there, despite my ordering it in writing, I had to buy a bankers draft.
