Am down to my final 90 days with Orange.

Here's what I've been offered.
Currently on 200mins plus unlimited texts for £13.50 a month.

Got offerend 200mins plus unlimed texts plus 500mb internet for £13.50 a month (24 month contract),
£100 for HTC desire
or £150 for Samsung Galaxy S.

The lady said she wasn't able to increase my montly allowance to make the phone free. Do you think this is a good deal?

I then went into Phones4u. They said they couldn't beat that.
But they then came back with a handset only upgrade offer...
I currently have a nokia 5800 which is worth £75ish recycling. They said they'd take that and it'd cost me £50 for a Galaxy S . I'd keep my current contract, so have to add internet as a bundle. It would be an 18 month contract.

So unless I'm wrong, I'd get a Galaxy S for £50 (as long as I trade in my Nokia 5800 with them) and get 200min, unlimited texts, for £13.50 / month on an 18 month contract, and then add net for £5 a month, so total cost is

18.5*18 + 50 (from traded in phone) = £383
beating Orange's offer of 24*13.5 + 150 (for the phone) -75 (for recycling = £399.

Also means I'm in a shorter contract and don't have such a lump sum to pay.

Unfortunately I've heard so many bad reports about phones4u, should I really be worried??

Thanks

  • Sasmsung have confirmed the Galaxy S is getting froyo at the end of September. Also, neither phones4u nor orange had the desire in stock. I know that means it's a good phone but all reports (and owners I know) equally say the Galaxy S is a cracking phone and at least equal to the desire.

I have both phones (one work, one personal) and I have to say that my if I had the choice I'd have both the phones as the Galaxy S as I much prefer it to my Desire. Screen quality, HD video, camera, weight and all round performance is much better. Add the fact that the Galaxy S is about to get the Android FroYO update and you have one hell of a smartphone!!
  • Thanks for your response.

I hate being led by my wants, but I really do want it and as I can get it tomorrow with phones4you, I think I'll give it a go. Phones4u shouldn't mess up a handset upgrade! I can then make sure Orange add the net so shouldn't be a problem!!
