I second that - reverse your car up to compare the shape of the rear of your car and the shape of the damage to the door. If it does not match then take lots of photos and send to your insurance company

Not being funny but a well timed photo taken by a witness whilst you were doing this could prove extremely incriminating! You can compare heights and shapes without sticking your car in a position where it looks like you've just hit it and have got out to examine the damage!

Hopefully some people reading this thread might think twice about reversing off their drives in future.I know its no help to the OP and if your wife didn't hit the parked car then its very unfair but all this can be avoided by reversing onto your drive, and driving off it as you are supposed to do.If people can hit something as big as a parked car then a pedestrian is even easier to miss.

Really. Is there a law that states this?

As for the OP if your wife didnt do it, I would be fighting it all the way

If there is 90+% of car drivers don't know about it. :D

Don't follow your argument. (And who says we are supposed to do this?)

Why couldn't his wife hit a car or pedestrian reversing into the drive just as easy as reversing out of one?

    Mine could.

And maybe those who park illegally with all 4 wheels on the pavement, totally blocking the route for children and parents with pushchairs might think twice as the car my wife was supposed to have hit was parked in this exact position, but no, nearly 3 days later and she's still parking in the same spot even though the house she is living in has a drive long enough for 4 cars!

    Reversing (200-203)

    200

Choose an appropriate place to manoeuvre. If you need to turn your vehicle around, wait until you find a safe place. Try not to reverse or turn round in a busy road; find a quiet side road or drive round a block of side streets.
    201

Do not reverse from a side road into a main road. When using a driveway, reverse in and drive out if you can.
    202

Look carefully before you start reversing. You should
    • use all your mirrors
    • check the ‘blind spot’ behind you (the part of the road you cannot see easily in the mirrors)
    • check there are no pedestrians (particularly children), cyclists, other road users or obstructions in the road behind you[/b]
To those asking about reversing onto drives it seems pretty clear to me.In most instances its easier and safer to reverse into your drive than out of it.

If as you say your didn't hit anything then I have full sympathy for you.Thats not to say I don't believe but there seems some element of doubt in her mind.

When you reverse onto your drive you are doing so into a "safe" area.If you reverse onto the road you are doing so into one with hazards and doing it relatively blind.Drive off forwards and you have a much much better view of any dangers.

The bit about your wife made me laugh :D.
