Thank's for posting, although you can't trust everyone, it's just the odd few that do it :)

Glad to hear there are still some decent people around in business :D

Isn't this how gary glitter got caught in PC World? The engineer was discribed as "a conscientious repair man", so I have just read - Mmmmmm!

To be honest I open the odd file or two. It is nice to know when you have spent hours unscrambling someones disk, you are not handing them back the electronic equivalent of scrambled eggs.

I would second this, when I am recovering files or restoring them to a fresh install I will open a couple to double check they are intact. If I am at someone's house and I am wanting to show them open office opening Word files for example I will always ask if it is ok if I open "Paula CV" or whatever it might be called before doing so.

Quite right. But thats the difference between "opening a file to see if its ok" and "opening it, and copying it to a folder on your USB key called 'Mamma Jammas' ". No real way he could justify the second action as being part of the repair process :)
