as a general rule, it's always best to remove your hard drive from the pc before sending it off for repair (assuming the fault isn't the hard drive!)
repair shops always have spares they can use to test stuff if need be.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer0 -

As I said: 'assuming the fault isn't the hard drive'
I would expect either the fault was amazingly apparent as a hardware failure, or that someone would already have done a backup and factory reset if it was software.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer0 -

- yes !
Most busy [ good at what they do - by definition ] people are not interested in what's on peoples machines. Most of us are not remotely interested, dozens of machines a week, any idea how much money / time would be wasted ?
Even using automated Linux dongles it still takes time.
If you ask me to ' rescue ' photo's documents etc I charge a extra on the basis that if you want me to do your menial ' general housekeeping ' tasks at my rate that's fine, it's a service you are paying for.
Anyone working for me would get the bullet if caught mooching on someone's machine, its my money, my good name, and their unemployment.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Thank's for posting, although you can't trust everyone, it's just the odd few that do it
Glad to hear there are still some decent people around in business0
