3 Sim zero - can I still get it?

I am movng to the USA for 3 years and want to keep my UKK mobile number for when I am back on holiday. I am out of contract with 3 so when I asked in a shop a couple of months ago about my options I wa told to go for Sim zero. I tried to do this the other da and the chap in teh call centre kept telling me he didn;t know if it still existed and he was waiting for his manager to oncifmr.

In the meantime he kept trying to flog me an HTC desire for £15 pcm and then to get it unlocked and put a USA sim in it. I do not want a fancy Data phone as I dont use it and it is horribly expensive in the USA.

I think I was being fobbed off. Any suggestions? If it doesn't exist can I port my number to a PAYG for the duration adn then go back to contract on my return?

The most likely answer would be to go to PAYG and take your number that way. You need to make a "chargable event" every 90 or 180 days but you could jsut credit it a tenner to do that. Suppose it depends how often you are back to is you;dd be back in the timeframe to make an "event" or you can leave it with a trustworthy friend to do it for you.
