Freesat Installation

Hi There,

We keep having issues with our TV reception - the aerial is in the loft and is a bit old school. So was thinking of getting it replaced - but thought maybe its worth spending a bit more to get freesat - has anyone here got any experience getting freesat installed? I dont have a sky dish so would have to be installed from scratch, what sort of cost should I expect? should I buy a FreeSat dish and then ask someone for installation? any recommends in the East Sussex area? what should be a rough price to install it?

Any help appreciated!

Mine was £110 in London including the dish , but that included a quad LNB and twin feed-which you should certainly have if you are thinking of having a Freesat PVR box.
There's no such thing as Freesat dish, a dish for Sky or Freesat are identical, as is the alignment.

We install both aerials and freesat/sky dishes.

Dont bother with a single feed install such as the argos link go straight to a quad even if you only need one feed now, cost should be +£10 at most and will save in the long run.

Cost by an independent freesat installer if installed under eaves height in London around £100.

Cost of a dish and one room feed will/should be cheaper than an aerial installation to one room.

Hoewever the aerial can be used without extra STBs and be distributed at will.
  • You lost me a little there...

Whats a quad? I have a TV downstairs and one in our bedroom, the aerial is in the loft so ideally if we could have it in the loft then maybe the existing cables could be used?

Should I buy a box seperately of asking someone to do the whole thing? assume the recording box would be on the main TV?

    OK.

The feed from a domestic sat dish cannot be split so a single feed is not much cop..

Each STB will need one feed from the dish, PVRs (Recorders) need 2.

A quad (NOT QUATTRO) LNB (the bit on the end of the arm) has 4 connections allowing 4 STBs or 2 stbs and a PVR.

    OK?

You can go to Octos with 8 ports but Quads are OK for 95% of domestics.

and to answer your other question dont bother buying the parts get an indy to supply and install, cost of parts is <£20 +cable.

you also cant have the dish in the loft as it has to be on the wall high up to get a signal

do you not know anyone who has had an ariel installed to get a recommendation or possibly a discount off installation

Quad LNB= 4 potential feeds from the dish to the box (2 for each PVR box). No, you can't have a dish in the loft-it has to have a line of sight to the satellite, and you don't want to use ordinary co-ax cable for a satellite feed.
Yes, buy your own box, then just get the dish and cabling installed. You need a box for each TV if you want to be able to watch them independently, but you could have a PVR on the main TV and just a Freesat tuner box on the other one. For the PVR you need a twin feed, and for a tuner only you need a single feed. But worthwhile to get a twin feed to each, as the cost difference will be negligible.

No, it can be at ground level as long as it has a line of sight to the satellite.
