Car Insurance PaymentsWarning

Thanks for that it's appreciated.0

Sadly I used to work for Swinton in their Accidental Death Insurance Office.
It had only ever payed out on a policy once.
Thats because accidental death insurance has statistically low claims rates and its why so many companies give it away free. If you pay for it, then you are wasting your money most of the time. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with the OPs issues with car insurance.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Sorry I obviously did not make my point clear enough:
Swinton are a bunch of of thieves. With a whole entire legal team working round the clock to find ways so they wont have to pay out.
Not limited to ADB cover.
OPs message was entitled WARNING. I am also warning against this company.
I hope that clarifies.0 -
It sounds like the solicitor is relying on the following...
http://www.its4me.co.uk/TermsConditions/
"payments by direct debit
Most annual policies can be paid for by Direct Debit via our own credit agreement. For full details of the terms and conditions and interest charges, please ask. Availability is subject to status. A deposit is required. Quotations given on request. If you choose to pay by Direct Debit, you will be provided with a Consumer Credit Agreement to sign and return to us. This agreement will set out your Direct Debit payments.
6 to 8 weeks before your renewal date, a further payment of the same amount is taken as a returnable deposit against next year's renewal. This money will be held by us on your behalf and used against your renewal premium. This payment will often be processed before you have confirmed that you wish to renew. Please do not treat our taking of this payment as renewal of your policy; it is simply a pre-renewal advance payment. If your policy is not renewed, this payment will be refunded to you.
As we operate our own credit agreement, policies we arrange cannot be paid for via an Insurer's Direct Debit scheme.
Where we hold credit or debit card details you have paid with, you irrevocably authorise us to charge to such card any sum due under this agreement which you fail to make on the due date. You will be notified in writing prior to any collection. We will not collect from this card should you notify us of any outstanding claim you have made against us.
other payment methods
Should you choose not to pay in full or by direct debit, we have a range of flexible payment options. For full details of the terms and conditions and interest charges, please ask. Availability is subject to status. A deposit may be required. Quotations given on request. Not available for policies incepted via our website."
I doubt it will work...
Explain your doubt, please.42 years of experience in the insurance industry.
And nothing the industry tries do to us surprises me any more!0 -
However, the OP has not yet indicated how he managed to make payments by debit card. In particular, it would be interesting to know if a Swinton/its4me employee assisted him in doing so.
As a former Swinton employee there was no option on the system to pay by debit card.
If a DD payment was missed The BACS system collected a double payment the next month.
Only 2 payments could default before the policy lapsed.
If there was a claim on the policy and the client didnt realised their payments had lapsed they could pay what was owed....by DD. In order to make thier policy live and lodge a claim.
Aslo be aware you have to keep up the DD payments for the full term of the policy, during and after the claim.0 -

To avoid confusing the OP and any other MSE members, the policy would not lapse, Swintons would invoke cancellation of the policy.
A policy can lapse at the renewal of the policy but cannot lapse during the period of insurance.0 -

Sorry I thought I was the one that worked there.
It can lapse if you dont pay.
The policy is not cancelled because upon payment of the outstanding premiums the policy is unlapsed - or as we in the business say - "live".
Cancelled is dead.
Lapsed is in a coma.0 -

Sorry but if you are saying a motor policy can be lapsed by Swintons or the Insurers part way through the year you are wrong as it can only be cancelled.
If you start using the words lapse and unlapse in this thread you will confuse the OP even more.0 -
