i would def say measure and see, if you want to stay in house and are considering the whole custom made thing why not go for like a bunkbed idea with space underneath for storage and toys. obv would not be too high due to sons age but worth a practical though.
one place to check for ideas would be ikea!!!! brilliant for differnent stuff and sizes:A VK :A0
