As has been suggested go with Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. AVG is a waste of space.

Quite, i think with AVG you've actually found something worse than/a bigger piece of junk than McAfee to propose replacing it with.... thats quite some achievement :p

Go for Microsoft Security Essentials, Avira, Avast or one of the reliable free ones and you'll be doing fine :)

Ditto. AVG is now the Norton 2005, slow, resource hog and likes to work in conjuction with Zonealarm to screw your internet port , leaving msn ,skype ports functional

  • A recommendation for avira here too. I agree with other people's opinions about AVG too...

avg isnt the program it once was.

You dont have a barclays account do you? If you open internet banking with them you get the whole Kaspersky Internet suite free.

Get rid of mcafee and try avast or avira.
Looks like you only have 256mb ram which is too little.

That is what I have 256 but my husband has the same on his pc and his pc runs faster. and he has 53 processes running.

If I uninstall Mcafee then and download AVG which is larger, will it make my pc run even slower?

or one of the others mentioned here? are they smaller in memory then Mcafee then?

As to re quote my mistake, my husband has 512MB in his, not 256MB of Ram.

I wish to re quote my previous message as I made a mistake.

My husbands pc has 512MB not 256 as I previously said. I just looked, which explains why his runs faster?

Am I correct here? Just clarify for me thanks. As I am learning all the time about stuff.

Avast or Avira free avg progs are "lighter" on your system.
A free prog like pc wizard or SIW will tell you what memory you have and how many memory slots.
If you get Ccleaner you can go tools/startup and see how many progs are starting automatically and disable them with a click. This should help speed up pc - but more some ram will help.
