Thinking of dropping McaFee and having AVG

I currently have McAfee and pay £3.00pm for the updates of this, Problem is, my machine runs really slow and I wonder if its that package that is causing this?
Would I be better off dropping McAfee and going with AVG?
Cause my husband with AVG and his PC runs faster then mine.
Plus every single day about 2 or 3 times its updating, and when it does this I cant use my PC at all cause everything just freezes up on it.
Then it says you are not protected and it takes like ages again and I keep clicking it and nothing and then all of a sudden it will start to work again. Earlier I felt like throwing the pc away cause it was so bad. I got to do nothing on it in the end.
It will say its protected and then 10min later will come up saying unprotected again when its just downloaded.
It also takes ages to load up when I turn it on as well. And takes ages to shut down.
Advice anyone?

Try avast free rather than avg, and use the mcafee removal tool http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
How much ram have you got, which operating system, and what is your commit charge in task manager, performance.

Get rid of mcafee and try avast or avira.
Looks like you only have 256mb ram which is too little.0 -
See the second link in post 2, you have about 30 too many processes running, and are using 5 times as much ram as you have installed, the solution apart from replacing mcafee with avast is to trim your startup apps, or reinstall XP, alternatively you can buy more ram, but still needs to address the bloat, so do that first.!!

As has been suggested go with Avast or Microsoft Security Essentials. AVG is a waste of space. If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0
