Talktalk broadband

I was only able to get broadband from Talktalk to function properly by changing the supplied Sagem modem. I suffered huge registration problems, was only able to connect via one telephone socket which was in the kitchen, and suffered routine and regular drop outs once connected.
Once a new modem (US Robotics) was fitted all problems disappeared. The talktalk software supplied (FOC?) to analyse connection problems could only recommend calling the technical support line which costs premium rate (10 p / min). My one and only call to techncial support was answered only after 8 minutes and as it turned out I had forgotton more than what the techie could offer. A promised call back by more experienced members of their team came earlier than agreed and I was not available and that meant that I had to call them back again and start the process over again. Calculate in the cost of a new modem and you should be OK. I guess they have to make money somewhere and it might just be par for the course to have to call the helpline.
