how/when to choose seats on a BA and AA flight?

I am flying on BA and AA scheduled flights on a package holiday booked through a TA. It is a kuoni holiday but booked thru another TA.
We are going to NYC from LHR on BA and from there to caribbean on AA, before flying back to LHR on BA.
My question is regarding our seats and how we can reserve/select these in advance to ensure we sit together (2 of us)? The TA said I would have to wait until the tickets are issued 1-2mths prior to departure, but we are currently 5wks pre-departure and still no sign of the tickets.
Can anyone advise what to do here, or is it just a case of turning up early for check-in?
Oh - that reminds me of another question - I'm flying BA out of glasgow to get our connecting flights in london - so can I check in online (and choose seats at this point?) and then go to the bag drop to check my bags in all the way to NYC?
How do I do the equivalent for AA flight?
Sorry for all the daft questions - not familiar with how it all works. TIA

AA you can do online presume BA will be the same, you just need to get the locator codes for airlines off the travel agent you used to enable you to log in0

If you get your booking ref for BA then you can check in on line and choose your seats free of charge 24hrs before your flight. If you want to book them in advance its £10 each way for domestic flights ( i think!) and £20 for international each way. Normally if you check in bang on 24hr before you should be able to get a good seat. Not everyone seems to use this feature as everytime i go to bag drop at the airport, there is always a long queue of people checking in at the airport.0 -
If you are on the same booking you will be sat together. No need to stress!Legal team on standby0

If you have a look at www.seatguru.com it also gives you the aircraft configurations to help you choose a (better) seatThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Not sure if you will be able to check in online if you are travelling with two different carriers.
I booked with AA and had a domestic flight with BA from ABZ-LHR and an AA flight LHR to LAX. I successfully managed to check in for the domestic leg, but couldn't for the transatlantic. When I got to the airport I was told I shouldn't have tried to check in for either of them.
Who is the flight booked with, is it BA or AA? If AA then you can choose your seats at any time using the flight locator number.0 -

Is there a way to find out which configuration my flight is likely to be? I know it's a 747-400 to LHR-LAX, but I believe there are 2 configurations. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0 -

If it is with BA them the configuration is 3-4-3 in both types of 747.0 -

I actually dont know who the flights are booked with as the TA done it all. I received my confirmation docs but not the tickets etc so I think I probably need to phone them and find out. Thanks for the reply0 -

Will you recieve tickets for the BA flight? Normally it is just a reference number - which you should be able to get now .... you can pay to seat together - but as there is only 2 of you, I wouldn't bother .... just check-in 24 hours before, printing boarding card @ home, then fast bag drop ...
