Poor camera prints developed by local photographic shop

Options
Have I any recourse for poor developing of digital prints. The shop claims my camera isn't good enough quality (rubbish - i've had perfectly good prints in the past) and that their machines are perfectly calibrated etc, but the quality of the picture is, i feel, quite poor. They look very soft, over corrected with respect to noise reduction and low contrast - almost a bleach bypass look (I work with digital images, so I know what i'm talking about when it comes to stuff like this)

However the manager of the shop (a local one not a chain) didn't seem in the slightest bit interested. It only cost me £3.50 for some prints, but I wasn't very pleased with them and told him so.

I think a local service (which I'd rather use than a chain) should do better and the up shot is they've lost a valued customer.

Is photographic printing one of the few products you can buy and have no rights to return it if you're dissatisfied with the quality?!?

Most shops that print will have auto correction on their equipment. So if you want proper control over the prints you will have to print them yourself.

Unless there is an obvious fault in the prints (e.g a mark) its all in perception. They say they are fine you say they aren't if the shop wont do anything all you can do is vote with your feet.

A lot of the companies that do online prints , you upload your images and order the prints that you want you can request no auto correction so that they print is as per the original image.

Keep refusing their offer and escalate accordingly.

A few years ago, I went on holiday to Florida. Took my photos into Boots to be developed. To cut a long story short, Boots lost my photos. After repeated offers and esclations from me, Boot eventually offered me £200-00 in compensation. I used the money to buy a new camera and a BBQ; both at sales prices.

Good luck and hope the above helps.:)

If they've already escalated to the manager I doubt there is much more you can do. Since it only cost you £3.50 I'd chalk it up to experience and go try getting them printed elsewhere.

Up to you but I would keep escalatingly until you get a result that you are happy with. It has always worked for me and good luck,:)

Who would you suggest the OP should escalate it to? Given they have already spoken to the manager?
