It is far from essential and for a beginner it is to be avoided. You can make a perfectly good website without it.And also knowing flash helps a fair bit too.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Yes I agree. Because there are lot of websites without flash. Flash sites are little hard to create and also they will take time to load.0 -
Nobody has mentioned Kompozer (https://www.kompozer.net) which is the ideal package for someone who is starting and produces good code. Things like Dreamweaver are if you have oodles of money. And yes, avoid flash, it is irrelevant for basic sites.0

Good to see Mozilla product which comes always free (open source)0 -

Flash in itself is contentious as it is a bandwidth hog, and not every system fully supports it0 -

OP hasn't bothered to reply.

8 months ago I knew nothing, didn't have a clue where to even start.
I've now done a couple of simple sites from scratch, taught myself from a youtube video.
Admittedly they are only a couple of pages each along with a photo gallery using the brilliant (I think) Visual light box.
Bit of the basics of HTML, then tried Kompozer, but I've also learnt how to host from an old PC at home, so fully flexible.

Its easier to use a company like 1&1 who will do everything for you and provide you with a website builder that you can use online. Nothing to download or install. It includes everything you need like hosting, email etc.
Some of their packages have 12 months free.
Search for "1and1" on Google. On their website, click on Web Hosting on the left hand side.
1and1 Home Package should be suitable which includes 12 pages. Technically, you could put thousands of pages on that package, but that package will only allow you to make 12 pages using the WebsiteBuilder service.0 -
First you need to have hosting space and domain name. After setting the domain the web page (html coding) needs to be uploaded on the hosting.0
