Usually buy my Hi-Fi gear from Richer sounds. Now condidering buying a TV.
Have read several times John Lewis is a 'quality' retailer.
what does this actually mean. I've seen they do a 5yr warranty and free delivery which is great.
Anything else I can take advantage of?

They are never knowingly undersold - so go in and ask them to price match.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

John Lewis provide excellent service, not just when buying, but after the event as well.
Peace of mind is what you get for your money.;)
Well worth the money on something like a TV.0 -
Got to say I would not buy a TV from anywhere other then John Lewis, and it has paid off. About 14 months ago we got a 32" tv from JL, about 2 months ago it got problems with the analogue tuner on it, called them up and they just replaced the TV with the now equivalent model - that one only actually lasted 3 hours before it went pop, fizz and loud bang!!! (these things happen) Called them up again and they replaced with a model that was £100 more then our original purchase - I can't begin to imagine what sort of hassles I would have gone through had I purchased the original TV from Comet or Currys!!!
Oh, and that was the 2nd tv I have purchased from JL in the last 10 years, first one lasted 9 years without fault and I believe is still going strong!0 -
I used to buy my TV etc from Richer Sounds, but now only buy from JL - they have an excellent customer services
I bought a tv a few months ago from JL. I then noticed that the price had gone down within a few weeks of buying. I phoned them up, and got the difference refunded - I never expected them to do that.0 -

Membership is open to loads of different groups and service is great, however, JL is superb as well but very pricey on components, cables etc.. so be wary of any add-ons to your purchase.
Big ticket electronics would need to be a good deal cheaper online for me not to purchase from JL, Costco.
I did buy a cheapy emergency laptop from M&S last month, I would hope the service from there would also be up with the best.0 -
Richer Sounds has service as good as JL. Not only is it cheaper, the staff actually have a clue what they're on about. You get people who know about the kit they're selling, not just the person who was selling tea-towels last week. Don't believe me? Try asking the same technical question in both stores and see what the response is.0

AND before the event ! Don't just buy a TV on the strength of what you read. Lewis's will demonstrate each set to you. I had them running round connecting an SD aerial feed to the sets I was interested in (they all look good when fed from a Blu-Ray player !!!) - NO other store would do that !0 -

Unfortunately many of the items that Richer Sounds have for sale are shop based only, delivery isn't an option, my nearest Richer Sounds shop is an 80 mile round trip.
So sadly a no go for me.0
