Explain o2 sim only (simplicity) data tariffs

I am having trouble understanding o2's new data tariffs.

http://www.o2.co.uk/newdatatariffs

I am thinking of getting their £15 a month simplicity sim (O2 300)

It says on the page above £5 - 500mb

Does this mean I have to pay another £5 for 500mb of data transfer?

thanks in advance

also if anyone knows of any other cheap sim only contracts out there with free data allowances please inform me.

Thanks again

:)

Alex

  • Hi Alex

The tariff provides you with 500Mb of data already. From October 2010, O2 will be allowing customers to buy an additional 500Mb for £5 or 1Gb for £10.

Three provide a larger limit on their tariffs, but I prefer the O2 customer service.

  • thankyou for the information... 500mb will be ample

    :)
  • just rang o2.. and they said for internet would have to pay £5 extra

If do not pay the £5 for the internet will get charged on a usage basis.

So if i went for the 15 a month contract would put me up to 20

The other providers are looking more attractive now.
  • If I am reading it correctly for £15 you can have 300 mins + unlimited texts OR 100 mins + unlimited texts + 500 mb internet. So you get internet access by having less minutes. For £20 you can have 300 mins + unlimited texts + 500 mb internet.

I've recently been having trouble with this too.

I called o2 sales on Friday evening, and even they didn't understand it. They couldn't even access the page, so I had to read it out to them.

If you commit to a 12 month simplicity iphone deal, it works out at £15 a month for 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of data. You may need to change the access point details to use the iphone one for data.

A company called GiffGaff runs on the O2 network. For 15 pounds per month(on offer at 7.50 per month at the moment), you get 300 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited internet. Also, they dont charge for 0800 numbers which is a bonus.

Also, their giffgaff to giffgaff calls are free, and the unlimited data really is unlimited data (for the time being, at least). No tie down, either, as it's PAYG. Half price goody bags right now, too.
