Anyone elses cats have a habit of taking food out of the bowl and putting it down on the floor before eating it? I wouldn't mind, but then they don't always eat it and i end up with cat food over half the kitchen floor.

Our cat is the only one in our house who now has to eat all his meals from a plate on his own special placemat :D (bought in a vain attempt to keep the kitchen floor clean...)

    Result...?

We now have to clean the placemat and the kitchen floor, and he thinks its twice as much fun :p - you have to drag it off the plate onto the placemat first, then drag it off the placemat onto the floor!!! (Plus he only eats the stuff in gravy, which I'm convinced has special adhesive properties in it because its a real "hands and knees" job when it bonds itself to the floor covering!!:rotfl:).

We tried the placemat route too - waste of ruddy time they are! I thought it would be easier for me to pick them up and wash, pfffft.

Mind, I do have one darling cat who has to have his OWN place to eat, with his OWN placemat, his OWN plate (no other will do) and his OWN type of biscuits. He's a woosy mummy's boy and comes to tap me on the arm if anyone else goes near HIS place - I'm supposed to sort them out I suppose!

Oops, I've taken to talking about our pets - not very moneysaving! :rotfl:

    I'll get me coat (again).....

  • We have two messy cats as well. We tried placemats but without much improvement. We found that we could contain the mess better if we used an old litter tray (well disinfected of course!) and they are much easier to scrub and dry.

I think the question should be: anyone's cat not drag the food round the floor?:D

Me!! Kizzy has biscuits and just eats them. :D

AS to the OP, I hoover once a week to once a fortnight, although the kitchen is always clean and the bathroom usually so. i am a bit of a !!!!!! in the cleaning sense, but my house is, according to my friends, comfortable not dirty, so i guess it's OK.

Every so often I get a cleaning urge and do the whole spring clean thing on a room, emptying drawers etc.

I think it really is what was said before - those that mind don;t matter and those that matter don;t mind.

I just cleaned my skirting boards for the first time in ages recently:o

My house gets hoovered once per week unless something gets spilled or we are doing DIY, kitchen gets a wipedown after cooking everyday and I do the bathroom everytime I go in.

We don't have pets and the kids are grown up so we don't make much mess.

I want mine to be clean enough for me not to be embarassed if we have unexpected visitors.

My cats never make a mess, it is all the yucky dogs fault. Anything the cats spill one of the dogs hoovers up, often with the cat still trying to eat it.

Well my personal limit is I'm not keen on mess, things left around everywhere.
We have a big coffee table with books and magazines on, well (this is going to sound down right odd) but anyway I like various books in their correct pile and place. :o

OH magazines live on the right, opposite where he sits. TV guide on its own, my Mags opposite me and library books in their own pile.

If they are mixed up, I can "see" them and that bugs me.

As for cleaning, I move everything off the food worktop each day and squit that.
I try to clean the bath each day, because it needs it for some reasons. Plus a squit of whatever I've got for the loo cleaner each day.

After that, I try to do one room a day but that never works, basically I start at one end of the house and finish at the other then start around again.

For example I'm coming down the stairs at the moment, so if I clean tomorrow then the stairs will be done, which calls for dusting the banister and skirting - (only dusting no scrubing will go on) then using my new rubber brush and dustpan brush down the stairs.
I do have a stair attachment but its not very good.

Cleaning rooms involves dustings surfaces and sides, skirtings, and vacuuming.

I remember the lamp shades and curtain poles about once every six months.

OH Mum and Dad visit regularly and she is really OTT and I mean it, OH actually dosn't think her home is welcoming (and it was his home once) because of it, and certainly dosn't feel like he's "back home"

I've know idea what she thinks and don't care to be honest. Its our home, if they visit these always a drink  and grub on the table.

Then these OH mate who's pet hate is toast crumbs in the butter. :D I'm surrounded :D

I think I'm less paranoid now, thanks to you lovely people :)

It seems my home IS clean enough! I saw some fur on my carpet (bear in mind there's 17 cats in the house) and after vacuuming I still saw a FEW left. I'm almost obsessive about having a clean kitchen (to the point where I don't want to cook after I've cleaned it), and my bathroom is ALWAYS perfect (right down to the shower door tracks). The cat's dining room lets me down for a few hours some days, but is never left to get disgusting. Litter trays are cleaned twice a day and cats plates / food area is washed four times daily.

I have days when I can't do much, but to be honest, not a lot really NEEDS doing some days anyway (and Justin is the perfect husband who would take over the jobs I can't do anyhow).

p.s. Anyone who wants a clone of Justin - I'm taking orders now - not cheap, but definitely worth buying. About to make my fortune!
