Sim card question

Michael Hames

I have a sim card question and would be grateful for any advice...

I'm coming to the end of my mobile phone contract with Orange. I paid #40 for 200 cross network calls and got a P900 phone thrown in. I want to switch to a more competitive contract - but keep my P900 - and came across onestopphoneshop. They're offering a Siemiens CX65 handset and 200 crossnet work minutes (plus an additional 200 cross network minutes for the first 6 months) for £30 a month on Orange (called Yourplan 200 + 200 see: http://www.onestopphoneshop.com/ourdeals.php?PROV=OR&OFF=CX65&TAR=OVPR100 ) However, the first 10 months are free. This works out at £60 basic for the whole term which is very reasonable!

I understand the mechanics of cashback (which is how this deal operates), but what I really want to know is can I put the sim card I get into my p900? I don't really want the Siemens phone, just a replacement deal for my P900. Will the sim card be compatible and work? Aside from calls and texts, I use my phone to look at the web, and it would appear that I can continue to use this service with this Orange contract.

If anybody knows if this is technically possible I'd be very grateful to hear (as it would save me a stash of cash going forward).

Many thanks for any views.

Should be no problem - the p900 is probably locked to Orange but this won't be a problem for a new orange contract.

However it will be harder to port the number - the best way is to port to another company PAYG sim and then port back to orange. Choose the sony k500i instead of the siemes and you can probably sell it on ebay to cover the 50 quid too.
    I think....

See this thread. If you ring Orange and ask for a better deal you could quite probably get a better deal and keep your number too.

  • Thanks for two helpful posts.

The porting sounds like a good idea. I understand that Orange won't let me switch my number with them to another Orange contract. Therefore porting to a pay as you go and then back to Orange sounds like a great idea!

Does anybody know where I can get a cheap pay as you go sim card which won't charge me for porting my number on (short term, but they don't know that!) and off again?

    Many thanks
