COMET - ripped off

Options
Today, I bought (what I thought was) a brand new HP Desktop PC from Comet for £379.99. When I got home, I was horrified to see the Windows Recovery screen on first boot. I continued to boot up the machine - only to find an account named SUE with the account passworded!!!! This obviously points to a second hand machine and without the original Windows 7 disc (which wasn't supplied) - I cannot use the PC!!

I am unable to get to the store tomorrow as I don't drive and had to rely on my brother - so I want them to deliver me a new PC and collect the second hand one TOMORROW!!! Any ideas what I should say to them if they refuse???? Thanks

    slight over reaction surely?

You do realise that unless the manager feels an obligation that you won't get the laptop delivered tomorrow because your wants are unreasonable, especially on a saturday.

Mistakes happen and yes this is a bad one but take it to Comet at the next reasonable chance and get a new one.
The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

'Sorry for being so unreasonable. I'll bring it back in next time I am in the area. Thank you for your time.'
    Gone ... or have I?

Also be aware that PCs don't necessary come supplied with Windows discs, so it may not in fact be missing.

It does look to be a second hand/display machine though so return to the store and get it swapped for one that is new. I doubt they'd kick up a fuss over such a straight forward and clear mistake.

Agreed. Disgusting service received on all 3 of my previous visits.

I dont buy from Comet, Currys or PC World anymore (obv. currys and PC World are different ghroup though, but same rubbish service). Am currently in a battle with Currys at the moment regarding a cooker, but have had them and PC World on court summons before regarding PCs in a similar state to that of the OPs

First thing OP, is make your complaint known to the store manager and give them the opportunity to fix it. Usually 7-14 days is seen as reasonable, although in this situation you would be looking for a brand new machine, so a replacement should be straight away.
Failing any response from that, I would then send a letter via recorded delivery to the head office and a copy to the store, make the store aware that a copy has been sent to head office. In that letter, you will be looking to state "Letter Before Action" and give them again 7-14 days to resolve the issue.
And if all that fails, go to MoneyClaim online and submit a small claims application for the full amount owed, plus any expenses you have incurred due to this problem, such as any independant expert reports, witness reports, and the like.

BUT: Before going to small claims, you will need to document that you have tried several times to resolve this issue and the store have not resolved the issue.

And you will find that Comet will give you a full settlement plus costs before it ends up in court. Believe me, been there and done it.

Why arte you talking about SC before the original poster has even contacted the store a bit of an over reaction and rather silly really.

I think there needs to be a little perspective and the OP needs to actually speak to someone politely and without ranting and then the matter may be solved.

What is silly is you not reading my full post.

I said if all that fails

Now I suggest you read posts in full before making yourself look like a prat

I had the same with Currys last year. I tried setting up the security details on a new tv, only to find someone else's details already programmed in. They swopped it for a new one no problem at all.

Might be worthwhile to complain to your local trading standards. They might not be able to do anything about your case, but if they identify a trend with that particular store they'll be able to take things further.

I think the 'prat' here is the poster that is looking for a solution to a problem that might not even exist.
